Anyone have any info ?
04-02-2006, 01:21 AM
The Derby was extreamly tough.
Only eight dogs got to the third and final series.
Heard that only slightly more than half finished. Some of the dogs that finished included Wayne Johnston Marauders Aviator, William McKnight's Sea Bisquit and Joe Bitler's dog Little Bit. I believe a couple of other finished. Joe's dog did a very nice job in the second series.

Anyone have results?

Date: Started 3/31, ended morning of 4/1
Place: Connell, Southeast Washington
Weather: Friday 70's with moderate breeze; Sat morning 50-60's light to moderate rain
Terrain: Rolling hills with abundant sagebrush.
Contestants: 33 dogs ranging from DOB 2/9/05 to 4/5/04
Series one: Land dbl ran from top of a tall mound, left longbird thrown R-L into a clearing just beyond a field of 3 feet tall sagebrushes, right shortbird flyer angle back L-R into sagebrush. Both hen mallards.
Series two: Tight long cheaty water dbl, long bird at approx 380 yds from line thrown R-L hip-pocket to shortbird, line to longbird cuts across right proximal corner of rectangular pond and proceeds down a small canyon. Short gobird thrown R-L at the distal end of pond. Both birds dead hen mallards. Most dogs switched back to shortbird when they lost momentum en route to longbird. If i remember correctly, 27 went in and 8 called back.
Series three: Land/water dbl. Big pond with a high sloping bank on the left shoreline which is continuous with a steep hill face, and a peninsula jutting rightward at about 130 yds down of said shoreline. Short bird thrown L-R angle back with birdboy positioned about 90 yrds up a steep hill face continuous with the said shoreline. There is a brief plateau after cresting the shoreline with a trail which leads toward the peninsula. Longbird thrown L-R onto tip of peninsula so that proper line is about parallel to the said shoreline on the left. Both birds are dead hen mallards. Only one of the dogs swam through water along the straight line to both birds. Most of failing dogs switched to long peninsula bird instead upon cresting the shoreline bank, instead of driving up the hillface to get key shortbird.
1st: Moonstones Sea Bisquit Run "Bisquit" (DOB 4/5/04; FCAFC Creek Robber x Bam's Lakeside Cassie; OH Bill McKnight)

Congrat's to the contestants that placed & finished the stakes BUT this club is located is in Northwest Washington and the trial was in Eastern Washington (a 4-5 hour drive). So the club workers traveled over there at some expense in time & money, so there would be a trial. Thank you to them. HPW

Congratulations Brooke and Tikka!
For those that don't know... Tikka used to be owned by Crimsonking over here in Warsaw, IN, but due to circumstances he needed to sell her at 2 yrs old... at least he knows his puppy program is working just fine!!
Brooke... excellent work with Tikka!

Picture of the 2nd series of the Derby, which I heard commonly referred to as the "Derby National" and or the "Puppy Killer". I dont know what all the clamor was about, it was just a little double.
04-19-2006, 09:08 AM
Ok Superdogs I gotta ask.
Looks like Wayne did pretty good  so what about you and Tyrant :?: handler error
04-19-2006, 02:56 PM
wayne did well, i think if his dog can get thru that derby, heck we might just skip the qual and head on up the ladder to the open and am!
and tyrant, well what can i say. you gotta pay your dues or it just aint real! he ran 100 miles an hour like a dog on a mission, only problem, it wasnt in the right direction!!
and hows kitty??
04-19-2006, 07:39 PM
Yep ya can't win'em all.
Kitty's doin good. We jammed the only qual we got to run in Niland. Hope to get in a few trials in the next two or three months in UT and ID.
