Does anybody out there have any memory of the reasons given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration?

Bottom line . . we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember.

Ready? It was very simple, and at the time everybody thought it very appropriate.

The main reason the Department of Energy was instituted 8-04-1977 was TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.
So, how is that workin’ for ya’? Huh?
Hey, pretty efficient, right?

And now it is 2008. It is 31 YEARS LATER, and the budget for this “NECESSARY” DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR, They have 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES. AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE!

This is where you can slap your forehead and say 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?'

Ah yes, good ole bureaucracy. And now we are going to turn the Banking system over to them? And then healthcare? And then our 401(k)’s?

And Look at all those facilities producing paper and methods of pushing it.

How much of the energy that they produce is used for the public?
everytime a worker needs a dam tool he has to fill out paper work. Sounds efficient to me. A carpenter has to call a plumber to move a pipe,,a pipefitter has to call a carpenter to move a piece of wood. Security is off playing poker. I'm familiar with doe. Lived in a town supported buy them.
