Arne Duncan is President-Elect Obama's nominee to be the new head of the Department of Education. Last year he was using school money to bus students to gun control rallys in Chicago and Springfield.

Shouldn't these be under Potus place?

I guess I see both sides of this and before I say anything else let me say that I am not and never will be for gun control. However, the first time most kids see guns in the Chicago area is not when dad or grandpa takes them hunting and teaches them how to safely use and RESPECT a firearm. The majority of kids do not grow up with guns in the home as they do in other areas of the country. While it may be seen as an irresponsible way to spend tax dollars it can also be seen as saving tax dollars by encouraging these kids not to pick up a handgun and end up doing time which is where a much larger portion of our tax dollars go. Is gun control the answer? No. I think firearm education would go a lot further but if you were the head of all the inner city school districts would you have a different opinion? 12 and 13 year old kids walking around with handguns is a problem without a solution at this point. Should responsible gun owners suffer because of it? My answer to this is also no, but how do you stop the problem? It is a very complex problem without a clear answer, but it is also one that is need of a lot more attention. I think this is a very interesting topic and one that will probably offer a lot of different intelligent viewpoints from RTF members, so without this debate becoming too heated and showing respect for other member's opinion's I'll pose the question, what are everyone's viewpoints on the subject and what possible solutions can we come up with?

Chris said when it is news and not opinion, and when a link is provided, it is okay to post here.

(thank goodness this thread has been moved--saved me the post-rant doubt)

I made the decision to move this thread to POTUS. Unlike Kevin's other thread, "Obama Appointee Says All Hunting Should be Banned", I do not see where this benefits the majority of the RTF members.

I'm sure my decision will be questioned and Chris will make any final determination of this thread's proper forum.

THANK YOU, VICKY.

I guess now I should go delete my other post.

Gun control does not effect the majority of field retriever enthusiasts?!?! Vicky, when was the last field trial or hunt test you went to that didn't use guns?!?!

But a post about hunting being opposed IS relevant, although not every FTer and HTer hunts.
