Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot, and will not ever agree on what is right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.

Here is a model dissolution agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other asse ts since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate 20 guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them). We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEOs, and rednecks. We'll keep the bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood . You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life a re under assault, we'll provide them job security. We'll keep our Judeo-Christia n values...You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill. We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and over-sized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World. We'll practice trickle-down economics, and you can give trickle-up poverty its best shot.

Since it often so offends you we'll keep our history, our name, and our flag and our GOD and prayer. Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like minded patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete and hang on. In the spirit of friendly parting.

Sincerely,
John J. Wall.
law student and an American

P.S. Also, please take Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda

John,

I wish you well in in your studies. I hope they include a good background in political philosophies. I would they also include course work in constitutional law as well. The founding fathers recognized that people, in the course of living their lives, would develop differing political and economic interests. They provided us with a system where freemen could address their concerns directly to government without bowing before a potentate.

What you are proposing is two countries of uni-thought. Uni-thought is always a short lived state of affairs. Any human system eventually develops its grievances and dissidents. Soon you will have Libs and Cons in each of your new "Utopias". I would prefer to stick with our current system.

I welcome the debate. Debate, if done with respect, and honesty can often lead to solutions of our common problems.

However, the modern discourse often degrades into professions of rigid political ideology. Ideological rigidity blinds, deafens and increases the volume of its adherents. It only sows discord in the body politic and hinders our common progress.

That's all find and dandy but we now have a government that doesn't repect these ideals. Our Constitution has NOT been defended in the last 50 years and most of the folks we vote into Congress are scum! Those that voted red will not be brought down to 3rd world living standards by those that voted blue. We can act like sheep or as men. We need to be loud and let them know we do not want them in office any longer. Obomo now wants to take over control of the Census Bureau so that he can jerrymander districts that will ensure Democrats in majority forever. His henchman for this plan is Rhom Emanual. Lets toss the apathy and stand up!

If you keep bashing the politicians you elect, then you will be left with nothing but scoundrels to vote for. Good men will not serve if the abuse is too intense.

The American governmental system is meant to be a participatory one. Most people who complain the most do the least in making the system work. I never thought that sitting at home, complaining had much of an impact.

I have been ticked off by government several times in the course of a lifetime. I have responded by organizing. campaigning, and raising funds for our efforts. I get down to the halls of state legislatures. I have on two occasions pounded the halls of Congress and testfied before committees. I have served as on a citizen's advisory board at the request of my Republican congressman. I have written letters and guest editorials. Through it all we have been able to make some difference, have some fun, and learn a lot as well.

I like some politicians, I appricated what Sen. Lindsey Graham did on the floor of the Senate this past week. But, the place needs major cleaning up. The crew we have now is in way over thier heads. What are we up to now over the last two months, 1.25 TRILLION. And you know they are going to want more. This money is being stolen from the American people and it is outrageous!

Delay and Rove tried hard to gerrymander election districts to guarantee a perpetual Republican majority. They were very successful in getting everything they wanted since redistricting is controlled by the States and Republicans controlled almost every state legislature following the last census. However, their success failed to deliver in the face of a massively unpopular President. I would expect Democrats to be much more effective in preventing a repetition of the last redistricting after the 2010 census, but that remains to be seen.

On the issue of secession, one needs to be a little concerned about getting what you ask for. The biggest net beneficiaries of Federal funds are the "red" states and the biggest sources of those funds are the "blue" states. (See http://www.hks.harvard.edu/taubmancenter/pdfs/fisc/complete_99.pdf) If you insist. we'll keep the money for ourselves.

On this day do the words, " a house divided" ring out?

Well, it has really gotten out of hand and the folks we have now will make it worse. It is no longer a matter of differences of opinion but, the fact that our govenment is wrecking this country financially and growing the entitlement mentality, the future doesn't look very pretty.

We can only vote for the candidates that run in our districts. For the rest, you have to convince their constituents of the need for a change.

We have to put up with the current make up of Congress for the next two years. The constitution calls for an election every two years for a congressman and every six years for a senator.

Conceivably in a parliamentary system, you can push out a government in the moment of passing an unpopular measure. In practice it makes for incredibly tight partisan adherence and ordinary citizen input is much harder. A resident of Canada remarked to me once that their system is an essentially an elected dictatorship.
