Nor-Cal, 17 mo. old Derby dog gets Amateur 4th

Was Steve Cote crazy for double staking his Derby dog "Guide" in the Nor-Cal trial? Guess not.

Just got a phone call from my husband... at 16 1/2 mo. of age, Guide just got 4th in the Amateur at the No. Calif. Ret. Club trial.

They are getting ready to run the last series of the Derby right now (4:15 p.m. PST). Guide is running good ... this after having to be scratched from last weekend's Derby in Medford because of an injured foot. Guide's been laid up for two weeks with -0- training because of his foot. Despite no training, he is shining this weekend.

Congratulations to our training partner Steve Cote and his pup Nightwing's Marsh Leader (Guide). 23 Derby pts. so far and now a 4th in an Amateur.

Will let you know how Guide does in the Derby later today.

He already had his Qualifying career with his win last Fall at 13 months old. ;-):)

CORRECTION on Guide's age.

Just talked to Laurna Cote. Guide is 16 mo. old. He won't be 17 mo. old until the end of this month.

Melanie is right. At the same trial last October when Guide was just 13 mo. old, he WON the Derby and he WON the Qual. That weekend last October was the end of his Qual career.

Laurna Cote just calledme. The Derby at Nor-Cal is over.

Guide got 1st place. He now has 28 Derby pts. and a 4th in the Amateur at 16 mo. of age.
