It seems our county commissioners and the Sherriff (the one who drew national attention by using BHO’s middle name Hussein at a McCain Palin rally) have decided Not to take stimulus money to hire new officers because in the end it will cost the county money that we don’t have. The grant would have covered them for three years and then the burden would fall on county taxpayers. I say good for them. The city of Sanibel, also in our county, has also decided to turn the money down.

A $4.3 million grant that would allow LeeCounty to hire 21 more sheriff’s deputies will not be pursued.
Commissioners voted unanimously today to not seek the federal stimulus grant because it comes with a catch: after three years, the county would have to come up with the money to retain those deputies, and commissioners and Sheriff Mike Scott do not want to take that risk in the middle of a recession

According to http://www.stimuluswatch.org/project/by_state there's no money planned to be spent here north of Lewiston so don't feel like the Lone Ranger down there. Hope that gives the Obama voters up here a warm feeling.

And before the stimulus supporters jump on, yes I DO know that the state officials are the ones who will decide where the monies will be spent.
