The latest Obama nominee for Regulatory Czar is anti-gun kook Cass Sunstien who favors bringing an end to hunting. He told a Harvard audience in 2007 that "we ought to ban hunting".
I hope those who voted for Obama can see him for what he is.

Isn't this Cass Sunstein "of counsel" to HSUS/PETA? Or a regular spokesman for them? At any rate this is seriously BAD news for hunters and in fact anyone who fears draconian 'animal guardianship' type regulations. This person is a serious Animal Rights whack job with an agenda who thinks it's wrong for people to own animals, eat meat, wear leather, etc. and heaven help you if you hunt for sport.

Anyone who believes that Cass Sunstein is OK as a czar should be made to turn in their firearms and hunting license forthwith.

I find it interesting that this thread has been alive since yesterday afternoon and 'some' of the regulars have yet to make an appearance... Can't even denounce a bad decision by the messiah when it is clearly wrong no matter which side of the aisle you support, I guess.

It wouldn't make you inconsistent, it might actually show some common sense...

whats scary is that some talking heads have speculated that once Sunstein gets a WH job he will be on a very short list for the next SCOTUS opening should that happen during the BHO presidency...that thought really scares the living daylights out of me..Sunstein is left of left

The only good thing about Sunstien being nominated for SCOTUS is that he will likely be replacing another liberal. I don't see a conservative justice retiring until after osama is tossed out in the 2012 election. I hope the 5 we have remain healthy.

It would add some credibility to other discussions.

This nomination is very scary to me, and I have already written my senators. I just hope it is soon enough to make a difference.

Your letters will be to late. His nomination was approved yesterday by some slight of hand voting.

This is a sad day for all of us.

RPOA is nonpartisan and our only concern is animal issues at all levels of
government.
We regret that more emphasis hasn't been placed on the effect the Cass
Sunstein appointment by President Obama will have on animal/pet ownership.
HSUS and ASPCA have been trying for years to get incremental changes in the
Animal Welfare Act as a forerunner to eventually end pet breeding (all
species) in the US. Remember PAWS, the misnamed "Pet Animal Welfare
Statute" that was defeated? Failing in that attempt, these extremists have
taken their agenda to state legislatures and our cities.

Consumer Group: Senate Confirmation of Animal-Rights Activist Cass
Sunstein Will Have Hidden Costs

New "Regulatory Czar" Threatens To Nudge America Toward Vegetarianism,
Loony Lawsuits

WASHINGTON--This afternoon the United States Senate confirmed the
nomination of Cass Sunstein to head the Office of Information and
Regulatory Affairs in the Obama White House. The confirmation came after
three different senators placed procedural "holds" on Sunstein's
nomination, and only succeeded after a highly unusual cloture vote on
the Senate floor late yesterday. Sunstein is a self-described believer
in the philosophy of "animal rights." He has argued that sport hunting
should be illegal, that meat-eating should be rare, and that animals
should have the right to sue human beings in courts of law.

Today David Martosko, Director of Research at the nonprofit Center for
Consumer Freedom, issued the following statement:

The judicious and ethical use of animals is woven into practically
every part of the American experience, and Mr. Sunstein's confirmation
is a sad indication that radical ideology can trump our way of life.
Sunstein embraces the fringe belief that animals are people, and people
are animals. Now that his philosophy can inform government policy,
Americans who raise animals for food, hunters and fishermen-and even
cancer researchers who use lab animals-could find their work
prohibitively expensive or a red-tape nightmare.

Cass Sunstein perfectly represents a segment of society that wants
to exercise as much control over ordinary Americans as possible: control
over what we eat, what we drive, how we stay healthy, and even which
doctors we can afford. Our personal freedoms shouldn't be subject to the
whims of a political 'czar' who gets his values from a PETA website.

The Congressional Research Service reports that between 1968 and
2006, only 54 judicial and executive nominees-out of many
thousands-needed a cloture vote to escape the objections of U.S.
Senators. Majority Leader Harry Reid's use of this tactic is a good
indication of just how radical Cass Sunstein's views are, and how far
out of step animal-rights dogma is with ordinary Americans.

So, he sounds like a real nut job whose beliefs are dangerous to our way of life. In his new position, what will his job responsibilities be, and more specifically, how will he be able to push those beliefs upon us successfully?

Anybody that sees some of the people that our President surrounds himself with and dosen't recognize the extremely, to the point of radical, liberal mindset is just seriously delusional.

I don't care who started the czar thing (I know Bush did) but it is time to put czars (unvetted, unconfirmed, unconstitutional) away. People who have no checks and balances are very very very dangerous in this country regardless if your a Republican or a Democrat.
