Open finished at 11:00 AM Saturday

I think Ralph said that Dave Wards dog won and that finished the title.

Too much road noise to be clear.

First series was a quad with an honor, run at the main grounds in the cut field from a mound along the south edge of field. From the line, Momma/Poppa was to the left (10:00 position), Momma thrown very sharp angle back right onto edge of mound with cover at about 150 yards, sit down behind a holding blind. About 1:00 position from line at 275 yds, a huge throw to the right over a mound and landing on the far edge of mound in cover, retired. Swing way to the right (3:00 position) 275 yrds, standup gun on top of a mound thrown to the right past a corner of woods. (Originally this mound throw was retired. Judges determined after test dog that there could be too many hunts and left the gun up. Temp reached 80 or higher in afternoon, bright sunshine all day.) Poppa flyer shot to the left.

Some dogs split between the momma and the center bird and ran into no-man's land--had to be handled. On the way to the center bird, the dogs could take some water--most did not and pushed off the water, pushed off the mound and hunted. Many had to be handled on momma bird. Dogs ran between the standup mound gun and the woods and hunted in the area behind the mound. There were lots of ways to "do" this test, and hunts on every bird.

Land blind was run from the road, 300 yards, through the marks. Start behind the mound, clip edge of mound, cross wind coming from south, past flyer crates on the north (most casts were into the wind as dogs suctioned to flyer crate), miss water at edge (marked with a tall stick of some sort so handlers would know where water's edge was), miss that mound where the center retired was thrown/scent, and go just past that mound to the blind. some dogs didn't want to cast into the wind, some were watery and jumped in by the tall stick. Some got as far as where the retired mound bird was thrown and went up the mound to hunt, or curled behind the mound.

Waterblind was run from south end of pond area, starting from a mound--150 yards. Now, the dogs had to miss a mound, get into water, up on peninsula, miss the next peninsula & stay in water all the way to the blind. Some dogs wanted that mound, some got behind it, some got too much peninsula and weren't watery enough, some were too watery, some did it well.

Water triple with one retired, run from south end of pond, starting from yet another mound. Long left retired thrown to the right onto land at 225 yds all the way across--line to this bird was in water, then cut across peninsulas. Center standup thrown to left (converging) onto land at 200 yards--line to this bird was water. however, the gunner was positioned so it was easy for the dog to run land all the way and hook the gun, and some did. Flyer shot to right-land all the way to flyer.

Open finished around 1 p.m.
