Step back a minute and think why this healthcare bill is so urgent. Are the insurance companies possibly scared of innovations in business models that are being developed which will leave them out of the loop except for catastrophic coverage?

One of my co-workers has family in California that is taking advantage of new Health Care clubs. The costs are much cheaper than insurance, but they still carry very high deductable cheap insurance for catastrophic events.

What does the clubs do? You pay a monthly fee like joining the gym of something like $70 for individual or $120 for families. The clubs do not take insurance, and therefore do not hire staff to deal with all of the insurance claims. They take care of all of your x-rays, labs, and in office procedures.

Along with that, there are un-insured including my wife's coworkers that opt out of benefits for higher pay that take medical vacations to India or Mexico for medical procedures much cheaper than if they stayed here with paying insurance.

Does anyone else think that business innovations and globalization of medical procedures has the insurance companies running scared, while the officials see this as a power grab as well?

Yes, there are problems that need to be fixed, but they can be fixed without costing tax payers dollars like not treating non-emergencies in the emergency rooms, and checking legal status of those that do come to the hospital. Maybe also bill the countries of illegal immigrants for their medical procedures.

Maybe Mexico should start giving a return on illegals like if you turn in a bunch of glass bottles or aluminum cans. That would actually make money for the hospitals. Probably .25 a piece...
