View Full Version : GOP silence on Ensign's ethics problems

Roger Perry

The second-ranking Senate Republican offered no support Sunday for embattled Sen. John Ensign, facing renewed criticism over an extramarital affair with an aide and the actions he took on behalf of her husband.
Asked on CNN's "State of the Union" if Ensign can serve effectively or should step down, Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., did not address his colleague's future and said he would await a Senate Ethics Committee investigation.
Kyl's sidestep followed on Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell's repeated refusals on Friday to answer questions about Ensign or pledge any support.

Aside from the fact that it was an aide, extra-marital affairs are a benchmark of what in a politician ?

He doesn't have one. As usual, his only contribution to this board is to sling mud. I am just surprised that RP is capable of a post that does not refer to the evils of GWB.

If it were TARP money there would be a big green highway sign letting us know. Since he's the SC govenor it would be SC taxpayer money. But, he probably wasn't attracted to her until post-augmentation.

I'd be pretty tempted myself if she came a callin'.....however that's the wrong girl. Pretty sure that is Barbara Bermudo, Cuban descent, newscaster for Telemundo. According to wifey...boobs were purchased by husband, she's pregnant and photo is about 10 years old. Not the Sanford girl but very 'top shelf'....now you all know why I watch the news in spanish :-) :-) Try Maria Belen Chapur for Sanford.....cute but no where close to being in the same category as Bermudo

Dont feel bad for John Ensign , his father owns a couple of casinos here in Vegas and John had a very lucrative VETERINARIAN practice before he got into politics...I actually campaigned for him but he lost my respect, he is a very nice man however, but like many politicians couldnt keep it in his pants

Why is it we respect a man who "gets around town" , but once he decides to enter the public service life we hold them to such tighter standards?

Glass houses regards,

My own experience with politicians is that, as a group, they are people users. I tend to think that is a necessity for the job. They may be highly ethical in their public lives, and they may be brilliant analysts and hard workers. However, almost every politician I have known who was successful was a pretty miserable person with their families and with their friends.

BTW: My experience with senior executives with major corporations is the same.....

You said "we" in your post....(hence the emphasis)....I believe there are many on this board that would not wish to be included in that "we".

Now....let me draw you a real plain picture. I suppose you find yourself amusing with your personal comment. I don't. Be real careful about doing it again.

Credit goes to a Physics Instructor I once had. He used the phrase anytime someone failed to indicate who the plural pronoun 'we' was referring to. You said "we respect a man that 'gets around town"....(I am not aquainted with anyone here that would agree with that statement). He addressed male and female alike...'You pregnant' (person + child = 2 = plural) 'or got a toad in your pocket?' (person + toad = 2 = plural). A twofold response, yes humor and also a request to identify 'we', neither however, a personal attack.

That's as polite as I can put it Dogger, now, let's see some of that Rio Grande Valley class show through.

'We' was used in its editorial sense. You wish to not be included, granted.
I'll allow other readers the same if they wish.

The phrase is somewhat obscure, hence my misinterpretation.

Why the threat though?

"Be real careful about doing it again."

You could have just explained the phrase.
