If Roger and his other Obama lovers continue to support Pelosi and their latest fiasco, and it manages to get passed, it will NOT be a new day for healthcare...it WILL be the end of the beginning for what America's liberty and freedoms have meant.

From the Carter era to the present, if you so-called independants think it's just business as usual, and I vote for the man, because I don't have ANY principles, and putting an Obama along with all your favorite socialist believers in office, is nothing more than..."It's our turn." Don't you have just a minor amount of fear for what you've caused to happen to this country?

You do recall the Carter era don't you? It wasn't JUST the hostages in Iran...or the failed attempt to get them out...or the 20% interest on your money...or...or..

How about this one we are still living with and paying for? Read it and weep.

How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of
a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So
they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without
instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two
people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do
time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the
tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and
hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They
created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer,
Then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"
So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal
Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one
Year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost."

So they laid off the night watchman!!!

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of
the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY .... During the Carter Administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line. We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of
an agency ... the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready??
It was very simple ... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977.
TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW, IT'S 2009 -- 32 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?"

Ah, yes -- good ole bureaucracy.

AND, NOW, WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

HELLOOO ! Anybody Home?

Thanks UB that was awesome.
But do you think a liberal is capable of understanding that.? They will tell you that the DOE has created countless jobs and is the reason we still have energy:D

And just how much of a boondoggle would we be in now if McCain/Palin were elected last November?

McCain he admitted he know nothing about ecomomics and Palin knew nothing about anything. I admit, Obama/Biden were not the sharpest tacks in the box to put up for election but better than what the republicans had proposed to run our country.

GOOD GOD PERRY! QUIT LIVING IN THE PAST AND DWELLING ON WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. IF YOU SPENT 1% OF THE ENERGY YOU SPEND BASHING R'S AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY ACTUALLY TRYING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER, THIS COUNTRY WOULD BE FIXED BY NOW. GET THIS THROUGH YOUR SKULL---IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN, WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT IS. YOU ARE SO CONCERNED WITH WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST AND TRYING TO MAKE BUSH, CHENEY, ETC LOOK BAD THAT YOU CAN'T HAVE AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION ABOUT ANY CURRENT EVENT. QUIT DEFENDING YOUR PARTY FOR EVERYTHING IT DOES. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THEY CAN BE WRONG SOMETIMES!

I think the original post referred to the DOE and its inception under Jimmy Carter. Checking my time machine, Jimmy Carter is no longer president either. So maybe your words are worth repeating:

GET THIS THROUGH YOUR SKULL---IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN, WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT IS.

Good point! ;-)

The DOE still "is" ... and it has not accomplished its mission, despite the billions of dollars we have thrown into it.

That is not "the past". It is a current situation ... and a model that we should be wary of as we contemplate setting up further bureacracies.

Mr. Ducknwork, you are guilty of the SAME behavior! it's what you do and who you are; you have no right to get indignant about Roger's posts.

UB, both President Bush I and II could have stepped in and taken control of this boondoggle, correct? but they didn't.....16 years in the whitehouse and they did not see the need to address it, but now it's a burning issue?

i figure it's ok for me to reference the past on this one since the issue is so old.-Paul

Mr. Young,
When I speak of liberals and things that I am unhappy with, I am speaking of the present and things that I feel should be done differently. When Roger constantly bashes past administrations and expresses his desire to prosecute Bush, Cheney etc, he accomplishing nothing and contributes no ideas or even comments regarding our present situation or the situation that it appears may come to fruition if the 'liberals' have their way. I try to stay current and more on topic than that. As far as I can tell, I don't just bash liberals. I dislike and disagree with the things that they are doing and trying to do. I may bash their policies and ideals, but not them as does Roger. PLEASE point out where I have harped on the past and bashed liberals of the past. PLEASE. No, really. I want to see it. Until then, I am not guilty of the same foolish behavior that Mr. Perry exhibits on here daily.

From our local paper, about the recent transit worker strike in Philadelphia:

Rendell and Brady had announced a tentative agreement late Friday, but it fell apart Saturday over the union's call ... for assurance that members would not be affected if the company's costs increased with possible passage of a national health reform plan.

Even the unions want to be insulated from any cost increases that may result from the health care insurance overhaul.

please cite ONE post you have made concerning the democratic party or the people you paint with the broad brush "liberal" which was not negative.-Paul

Gosh Paul, I would have thought you would have grasped the salient point, rather than to sink back into the wallowing of your fellow Obama followers.

I realize you and Iowa Keith are indebted to your unions for keeping you employed over the years, but I always thought it carried some intelligence with those beliefs, not falling on the sword for for an administration that would as soon send you a dead fish as award you with a watch at retirement.

If you missed the salient point about the Carter administration originating that do-nothing bureaucracy that still exists, despite never achieving one damned iota towards it's proposed goal...and how THAT might relate to the various bills being proposed by the present administration and congress, then I apologize for not spelling it out. Good grief, if it sailed over your head, how could it possibly have been understood by Roger?

I'll try to be more eplicit next time.

UB,

first, i am not indebted to my Union. i have enjoyed 34 years of continuous employment because i work for a company that is aggressive in seeking out new contracts and because we deliver our product on time and under budget. it is a product that is in great demand and is probably the reason you are not attempting to insult me in Russian right now.i work hard and get exemplary performance reviews annually. i have done well and look forward to finishing up my career there.

i thank you for your concern for my lack of intelligence, ability to grasp the written word and the ability to understand when someone is calling me an idiot. please know that i consider my skills to be sufficient in this regard and that i share the same concerns for you.

and by the way, i think that the fact you brought up the Carter administration originating the DOE without mentioning all the others since that have perpetuated and, indeed, added layer upon layer of bureaucracy to it is quite typical of your posts.

everything you rail against did not happen over the past 10 months. it took decades to come to fruition under many different administrations. you can ignore that fact if you wish, but that is plain for all to see.

in case my point has gone over YOUR head, i am not a fool, i don't like being called one, and won't put up with it.-Paul
