I just heard the president state "We need to enforce our immigration laws, borders"

Does this mean his aunt who is in the US illegaly is getting deported?

While Bush may have sung "if I only had a brain", Obama is chorusing "if I only had a pair!"

His speech was pathetic. It should have been 20 seconds long:

"I've tried bipartisanship for one year and got nowhere. Here is my agenda. Pass it with 51 votes if you must. {give double-barrelled fingers to the right side of the room}"

But he doesn't have a pair to do that with.

I give credit where credit is due. The republican congress, against a well-funded super-majority of dems, has given the appearance of being an anemic, dying animal on life support, but at the same time completely shut down Obama's political agenda, and brought the supermajority to its knees, through superb political maneuvering and strategy. Anyone interested in a career in politics should be taking notes.

The whole quote would be "And we should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system -- to secure our borders and enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation." What he is actually calling for is immigration law reform that would provide some avenue for current illegals to earn a place in the country while also securing borders to reduce future illegal immigration. The laws are being enforced with his aunt, who was allowed to stay in the US pending a hearing this year on her request for asylum. She's not exactly a close relative -- the half sister of the father who left when Obama was 2 -- and Obama could have acted at any time within the laws to sponsor her for a permanent visa. That he hasn't and has said the laws should be enforced in her case, pretty much leaves her fate to the law.

I didn't get the impression he wanted to enforce the laws already on the books but bring in more future Democrats instead.

Treason!
