Usually, during the speech the President gives us this sentence, "The State of the Union is _________." It usually only takes one word to fill in the blank. I seem to remember words like strong or resiliant. I didn't catch it last night, although I didn't see the whole speech?

Did anyone catch it?

This is as close as it gets

"Despite our hardships, our union is strong."

I searched the transcripts for the word "union"

Actually, Bush ssaid that the "State of our union is strong" in five of his SOU speeches and "confident and strong" in another. In two, he provided no overall assessment. Clinton made similar statements i five of his SOU speeches (in one saying "the state of our Union is the strongest it has ever been") and made no such comment in the other three.
