JUNIOR TO SENIOR SEMINAR

MAY 8 & 9, 2010


Kettle River Retriever Group will again offer a spring training seminar on May 8th and 9th. The day will start at 9am Saturday May 8 at Tobies in Hinckley for a half a day of classroom instruction. After lunch, the class will move to the new KRRG dog training facility located a few miles north of the Hinckley Casino. This facility consists of six new ponds, 120 acre open area, a gravel pit and much more. A demo will start the afternoon class and then one on one instruction with your dog. Only 15 handler dogs will be used. The number of spectators will not be restricted. We will continue on Sunday, May 9 for an entire day of instruction. Instructors again this year will be Pro Trainer Sam Daly and John Blackbird. This program is designed to help those new to the hunt test game as well as experienced members trying to move up from Junior to Senior tests or someone with any training issue. Still room for a few more. Come spend a lovely weekend working with your dogs and if you are in to it, the Grand Casino is only 8 or so miles from the grounds.

The MN hunt test season is almost on us!

Kettle River Retriever Group is still taking applications for their May 8-9 Seminar. We can help your prepare for Jr and Sr Hunt Tests and answer many of your qustions. Example:

-I have a young dog, when to I start training?
-My dog won't sit still. what do I do?
-My dog won't pick up birds, now what?
-When do I start doubles?
-When do I start hand signals and which one do I do first?
-What is a T, double T, and wagon wheel drill?
-When do I use the whistle?
-What do I need to do to get ready for a Junior or Senior Hunt test?
-Should I use a pro trainer?
-What about force fetch, collar fetch, and stick fetch? Whats needed?
-What does a logical training progression program look like?
-How important is opedience and control?
-Do I have to do a swim by drill and what does that look like?
-Importance of training with birds.
-No-No procedures
-Transition training and examples.
-Discuss common training problems.
-Develop and review a logical training program from pup to senior dog.

This will be a hands on training program. Limited to 15 handler dogs.
