Just curious; does it ever bother Candians or Central/South Americans that only citizens of the US of A are called "Americans", technically Canada for example is in North America, and therfore I think you could call Canadians Americans, for what its worth I've always heard Candians call Americans "from the States".

No we call you Americans too. I think we like to point out we aren't North Americans, we're Canadians.

Probably stems from the fact that there is no word that fits United States for a description of citizens. United Statesians doesn't work at all.

What about "Northern North Americans"? (This whole post is partially serious, partially tongue in cheek of course.)

after a bit of thought, I found a pattern in my terminology...no reason for it but probably how my folks spoke.

Americans are Americans...I never say from the 'States' but rather from the U.S.

I am always a tad bothered when people from Great Briton call the U.S. America....not sure why.

Canadians will always be Canadians...I cannot imagine an E.U. type of melding....wonder what we would be called then?
