View Full Version : Palin explains 'blood libel' comment

Doesn't that woman know when to zip it????

WASHINGTON — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, defending herself against criticism following the Tucson, Ariz., shootings, said Monday that she used the term "blood libel" to describe comments made by those who falsely tried to link conservatives to the assassination attempt against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

"I think the critics again were using anything that they could gather out of that statement," she said. "You can spin up anything out of anybody's statements that are released and use them against the person who is making the statement."
Palin said the criticism won't stop her from speaking out and accusing Democrats of taking the country in the wrong direction.
"They can't make us sit down and shut up," she said.

Palin added, "I receive a lot of death threats. My children do."
( If she and her children received death threats then why did she not submit them to the FBI for investigation???)

I don't waste my finite energy on hating anyone.
I find her amusing, and horribly misguided and ill-prepared for the pubic spotlight, let alone a national campaign.

I see she is doing interviews for Faux News and not any main stream news interviews. Could it be that she is afraid she will be asked any hard questions like "what newspapers and magazines do you read."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/30/sarah-palin-answers-what_n_130706.html

During their interview Monday, Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin what newspapers and magazines she read to inform her worldview before being tapped as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/30/sarah-palin-answers-what_n_130706.html#). And Tuesday on the "CBS Evening News," Palin's answer was revealed: "most of them," "all of 'em," and "any of 'em."
Palin would not, or could not, name a specific news source, saying only, "I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

I’m going to give Palin the benefit of the doubt on the “blood libel” comment. Considering how she used it, I don’t think she meant it as a slur against Jewish people. She had probably heard the term, assumed she knew what it meant, but had no idea what it really referred to. Although, she has since tried to spin the meaning of blood libel to provide some credibility to her statement. I think that was a bad move.

Obviously, the comment didn’t sit well with much of the Jewish community, especially since Gabrielle Giffords, herself, is Jewish. I think Palin would have been better off admitting she did not understand the true meaning of term blood libel, and asking everyone to accept her apology.

at one time I was a Palin fan....even voted for her/ McCain, but since I actually started to listen what she has to say and quit staring at her on the tube, she just doesnt make sense...I wish I knew who the puppet master behind her is, it cant be her husband, but the party machine behind her is part of what is wrong in this country...they continue to throw her out there like a box of laundry soap and ask you to believe that your clothes will smell fresher and be brighter if you just buy into the deal

I keep thinking the next gaffe will be the deal breaker, but so far she has seemed to escape...but sooner or later, she will trip over her on tongue and the left will swoop in and bury her into relative obscurity

I think the sad reality is Roger, that she is far too like the vast majority of Americans.....and doesn't ready ANY magazine. Perhaps that's why she is so wildly popular with many, I don't know.

I'm a conservative who votes pretty heavily to the right side of the aisle, but I don't get the fascination with her. Just my $.02.

Why do you care? You are not going to cast your "independent" vote for her (and I really hope you don't get the chance) nor any other republican. You just like to be critical of her opinion while offering nothing of substance.

Rush Limbaugh says the libs will tell you who they are most afraid of by who they spend the most time and energy attacking. In this case it's Palin. She has them all "wee wee'd up" to quote our clean , articulate president. They practically foam at the mouth just thinking about her. It's actually pretty amusing. Get used to Libs, you have not been able to run her off yet, she's tougher than you are...

Bill , I have to respectfully disagree with you...Palin is what we call here in Vegas "a false favorite" its a trick the sportsbooks use when the odds are not in their favor and they want action on the opposing side, so they prop up a "false favorite" and all the uneducated bettors buy into the hype and bet that side which is obviously a loser from the start...

Palin is the easiest candidate to beat, she has enough gaffes and her resume has more holes than a blown pattern of Black Cloud ammo...the Dems prop her up and get the Rep to take the bait and nominate her and when its to late to change, BHO get reelected...in lots of ways the Republicans bit once when they nominated McCain/Palin...they thought the threat was Hillary so they went Republican Lite and got trounced...

the Tea Party here in NV got snookered the same way when Ind voters came out for Angle in the primary and gave her a false lead only to get trounced on election day...

basically its good old fashioned sanbagging

I don't think she will run. Why would she put herself and her family through the kind of attacks they would have to weather? Comedians already attack her daughters... it's just nuts. I hope she just keeps making money and driving the left nuts, which isn't hard to do...and laughing all the way to the bank. I heard she made something like 15 million last year. Not bad... I could put up with a lot of left wing vitriol for that kind of dough.

Hey, we agree!
I would add though, that she's not witty or bright enough to have a talking career by herself. She needs the spectre of a presidential run to keep herself interesting. If she ever really runs, she'll be torpedoed, and that will be the end of her. If she ever admits she's NOT going to run, she'll be putting people to sleep like talking Lunesta. She's got to keep walking that thin line, right where she is. As long as there's a threat of her running, her stupidity is worth showcasing in the media. Otherwise, its not. How long it will last??? Who knows.

Why is it that the left (yes you are one of them) has a total fit when Obumma's stupidity is exposed?
What did he do other than spending most of his time as a senator running for POTUS?
What did he actually do to qualify him for the job?
Answer: Jack crap nothing.

It's a disease called Willfull Blindness! Just as everyone that was pointing the finger at SP with her map of targeted congressional races is WILLFULLY BLIND to the President's recent characterization of Right leaning folks as "the enemy."

Btw, I'd be interesting in reading any data that supports your "sad but true" assertion that "most Americans don't read much anymore." Intuitively it would seem that just the opposite is more likely to be true.
