His poll numbers are on the rise after a tough year,(should be good news for Republicans eh?) he has recaptured some of his old oratorical magic and a few pundits are even debating whether he’s becoming the new “comeback kid.”
But the stakes will be high on Tuesday when President Barack Obama tries to convinceAmericans (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&spn=10.0,10.0&q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667%20%28United%20States%29&t=h) he has a plan to tackle the economy, joblessness and deficits all at once — a daunting challenge crucial to his 2012 re-election chances.
Obama’sState of the Union address (http://www.last.fm/music/David%2BFord/State%2Bof%2Bthe%2BUnion) will be a chance not only to set the tone for the second half of his term but also to reinforce his shift to the center since his Democrats were routed in the November congressional elections.

Even though B52 Ben the Ber-Nank is in his basement printing money like mad there's nothing Obama can do about the crappy economy, the crappy unemployment numbers or the crappy deficit unless he brutally cuts spending in this country. And I mean tough and brutal austerity cuts that would make even the Greeks blush. We're flat-ass broke and there's no switch in the White House to bring the economy back and unemployment down to 5%. It's only Obama's arrogance that makes him believe he has any control over things.

We don't have the courage in this country to do what needs to be done and right this ship. Keep your pantry stocked.

We live in Cuba now.

And Obama should never have caved in to the Republicans on the tax cuts that will add a trillion to the deficit. That is one place we needed to start.;-)

Roger, your party agreed that the tax cuts (current tax rates kept in place, not really tax cuts) were needed to keep the economy from going under. Don't you agree with the leaders of your party?

I thought you righties were so hopped up about cutting the defecit????????? Show me where in the last 4 years the tax cuts have helped lower unemployment or anything else the Republicans have claimed the cuts would do????????? Oh, by the way, Obama does not belong to an Independent party so I do not agree with his signing of the extention. He was forced to sign it or the Republicans would not go along with extending unemployment compensation to millions of laid off people. Ending the tax cuts to those making over $250,000 was part of his promises that he did not keep. (see thread about promises Obama kept/did not keep)

Except taxes, lol!

Thanks Obama & GOP! I can afford to run my dogs twenty some times for another year!

We live in Cuba now.

You are spot on, Goose.

BTW, got this email from someone that concurs with your mantra.
Enjoy, UB

I remember asking dad about Castro when I was about 9 years old. I asked ,"Is Castro a good guy or bad?"

Dad said he couldn't tell!! This was about 1955. We were living in Louisiana at the time . Dad was in the army there.

Cuba was fairly close and in the news a lot. The Cubans were asking the same question! Ike was president.

This past July, we had the pleasure of sharing a summer barbecue with a refugee from Cuba . Our dinner conversation was starkly different than most.

This refugee came to the United States as a young boy in the early 1960s.
His family was more fortunate than most as they were able to bring a suitcase and $100 when they fled Castro's newly formed revolutionary paradise.

Our dinner consisted of all-American fare: hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon and fresh ears of sweet corn. This is a menu shared with family and friends nationwide, while celebrating the birth of our beloved America on the Fourth of July.

We began with a simple discussion about our country and the direction it has taken since Barack Obama came to power. We shared the usual complaints about the sour economy and liberal social engineering emanating from the rulers in Washington .

But then he said it. The sentence came naturally. I assume it was unplanned. But it carried the weight of a freight train. "You know when Castro took power, none of us knew he was a Communist."

We sat stunned. He continued, "Yes, we all thought he was a patriot, a nationalist. Before the revolution he didn't sound like a radical."

The comparison at this point was easy, and I interjected, "You mean just like Barack Obama?" He responded, "Yes, just like Barack Obama."

He continued, "We were all shocked as the government just continued to grab more power. First they said the revolution is over, so please turn in your guns. We all complied."

"I remember my uncle saying after it started, 'Castro will only nationalize some of the big industries, he will never come and take our family hardware store.

'But that is exactly what happened, Castro started with the sugar mills and the large industries, but they eventually came and knocked on the door of our family hardware store. My family had run this store for generations. They said we now own the hardware store, you work for us. And that nice, large four-bedroom home you own, it is now our property also, and you can move yourself and five children into two rooms of the house because others are moving in with you."

The lesson learned from this discussion is a lesson most Americans refuse to hear. Political leaders can lie about their agenda and once in office they can take totally unexpected turns.

If you had asked us three years ago if we thought General Motors would be nationalized, we would have never believed it. We could never contemplate a country where the rule of law, the most fundamental building block of a justice society would be evaporating just like it did in Castro's Cuba in the early 1960s.

Governmental leaders are bribed in full daylight only to have all investigation of the crimes stifled by the Attorney General. The U.S. borders are overrun with crime and illegal activity and the leaders in D.C. act as if it is important to protect the lawbreakers while the innocent are killed and overrun. When local communities attempt to enforce the law, they are ridiculed and threatened as racists and bigots. They are sued by the very administration entrusted with enforcing the law.

Without the rule of law the U.S. Constitution is a sham. Without the rule of law our beloved America is swiftly becoming a country where only the politically powerful will be safe. As Michelle Malkin has so eloquently explained in her recent book, a culture of corruption has replaced honest government.

The only way this problem will be fixed is by massive citizen action. All honest citizens that want to be treated equally must come together and demand that the favoritism, the bribes, the uneven enforcement of law end now.

And yes, it can happen here.

Bill, one side of your mouth says "lets spend more money" mockingly, the other side of your mouth says you agree with the tax cuts being extended which adds at least a trillion dollars to deficit. Which is it, should we have not extended the tax cuts for those who earn over $250,000 and save a trillion dollars or extend the tax cuts and put us another trillion in debt?

My belief was that Obama should have not extended the tax cuts and if the Republicans chose to not extend unemployment to millions so be it. That just would have come back and bit them in the a$$.

First, I would have to agree with you assertion that the current tax rates are adding to the deficit, which I don't. Tons of excessive SPENDING are responsible for the deficit. Cut spending. And you are right, I do mock insane spending. Tomorrow night Obama is going to walk up there and his telepropmter is going to tell him to propose billions more of ridiculous spending. It is time for you libs to get a grip and realize that we have to stop spending. We don't need to take more money from the citizens of the country, spend what we have wisely.

May I remind you who the last administration to balance the budget was?

Anyway, you cannot cut spending and balance the budget unless you are REALLY willing to make spending cuts where it counts.

DEFENSE

SOCIAL SECURITY

MEDICARE

We all know its political suicide to touch those, so unless some self-sacrificing group of congressmen and willing to throw themselves onto their swords, don't look for a spending cut solution to the deficit.

For the life of me, I don't know why we conservatives continue to fight against Obamacare. It really should go into law, so idiots like you would receive precisely what you deserve.

You remind me of the (un) American communist sympathizers so vociferous in this nation, that the US military fought for to keep their freedoms and liberty alive, no thanks to them. Despite you liberals that are so quick to have your freedoms legislated away, we will continue to pull you out of the quicksand you continue to fall into.

Hey!!! Someday, you'll become smarter, and you might even thank us.

I am soooo sorry. I should have known that would be over your head.

Dayum, I MUST learn to speak in one syllable words when attempting to make something understandable for you.

Now I see why you have such problems with any knowledge of the US Constitution...far too few pictures for your comprehension.

Once again, my apologies.

As a heat-packing liberal, and a newcomer here that has seen your posts claiming to be "independent", I suddenly see you now claiming to be more democrat than independent. Which is it? Again, as a newcomer here, I am totally spun bass-ackwards trying to figure out what any of you here are trying to accomplish with your ideas. I will state I am a liberal and will always defend that front, and in my life I have seen precious few people that claim to be independents actually tow the independent line. Mr. DNF777, with all due respect, you are no independent.

But you do make for interesting reading when I have exhausted all the usable dog training info in the main forum.....you tend to expound my own ideas very well, and they are far from "independent" my friend. I think we think very much alike, you just do a better job confronting the opposition with your superior wit....:)

How many liberals do you know are life-members VFW and life NRA members? My liberal friends run me out of town. I've been told in no uncertain terms, that anyone who has a full 36-gun safe, CANNOT be a liberal! Then I come here and get blasted by many conservative friends. Screw both camps! Call me what you want, tell me what I ain't...but I have both sides disowning me. And I'm very happy with that!

Its just hard to sit quitely and listen to extreme right wing fanatics talk about how liberals are legislating away our rights!! And its even harder to be called a blind defender of Obama, when I'm just as pissed at him as anyone for continuing Bush policies. Especially when the same people who praise Bush, blast Obama for doing the same things!

Well I cannot give you a number because I don't know the memberships of every individual I am acquainted with, but I can assure you that VFW and NRA are not final stamps of approval or disapproval from any group. I know many veterans that are liberals, and I know many gun owners that are liberals - I suspect there are many here in this forum that meet that criteria. Perhaps tey like me dont have 36 guns, not sure why you had to advertise your gun wealth publicly - if one has only a paltry 24 gun safe does that mean he is almost a liberal?? I know liberal college professors that hunt. And I know conservatives that smoke marijuana and believe in pro choice. There is much more colour to the ideals of conservatism and liberalism and independence as well for that matter than merely proclaiming membership in a few token organisations.

I haven't been around long but I would not be surprised if you were a big Obama supporter back in 2008 and early 2009, but conveniently wring your hands of his essence of late because of his failings. But don't despair, you are not alone and it is nothing to be ashamed of.
