Hello Everyone,

I know there are lots of RTF people out there that enjoy photography and I'd appreciate some feedback and camera suggestions. Don't worry about being brutally honest that's why I'm posting.

First things first, my Budget is $1,000 for camera and lens. I figure another ~$200 to buy a decent bag and tax.

I live in Minneapolis MN. The people at National Camera Exchange seem knowledgeable. For what its worth I'd prefer to buy locally unless the price is way out of wack. I'm also not real crazy about buying used.

The Nat Cam sales people are recomending a Sony SLT-A33or A55 ($100 more) and a Tamaron A14 18-200 MM lens F3.5-F6.3. They say that this camera setup is a lot of "bang for the buck" considering my budget and ability.

I'm not really familiar with Sony products, so I'm a bit leary about that. You see a lot more Nikons & Canons, but my budget is pretty firm and it does seem like the Sony has better performance and features than the comparable priced Nikon and Canon I was shown. Anyway I'd like to get the most camera I can.

I had a Nikon FE back in the day, but my skill level is low end amateur at best.

Thanks in advance for your time and comments.

I've read good reviews on the Nikon D3100. Around $600 with the kit lens. For about $200 more there's a 35mm 1.8 lens.

Canon or Nikon.

They have the most complete product lines available.
