I give in to dnf.

I won't go after him anymore.
He can post anything he wants, not my concern.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

It has become not fun anymore.

It is time to get out and train Elvis so as we can screw up in another test!!!!:D

PEACE!!!

(I retain the right to rescind this at any time, but I understand it is getting tedious, even though noone has told me that)

for all concerned I hope the two combatants can keep each other on ignore...

and hopefully all non combatants will refrain from fanning the flames....

maybe we should post odds on who will break the truce first, smart money says its -110 that one or the other breaks in the next two days

trying to help in the very worst way;-)

How does that work Bon. I have never understood betting. When my Brother and I bet on football games we bet a slap to the head. Being a life long Giants fan, and my Brother an arm wrestler at the county fair. I’ve takes a few good shots to the head. Given some back.
So if I were to walk up to the window and put a $100 saying YES one will in the next two days. Would I loose money?
That whole odds maker thing I cannot grasp, yet.
And what if when one breaks it, they say it is the others fault?
And what if it is George Bush’s fault?

minus (-110) means you have to put up 110 dollars to win a hundred, in other words the house agrees with you on the outcome(favorite) and you have to pay the vig...if it was + 110, you would be betting the underdog and betting 100 to win 110..

as the days increase the likelyhood that the truce will be broken may increase, so the odds may go to -250 (bet 250 to win 100)

Does this mean that DNF is the official tit for tat champion?

Thank you Bon, this specifically is what is blowing my mind. Would I get back my original $110 and $100 on top of that? Is that what is meant by spending $110 to win $100. Or, would I just get $100?

how does the house make money on that bet?

.

...for example if you bet -110 to win 100 and I bet the opposite way, + 110; 100 dollars to win 110..one of us is winning the other person's money

the house makes money on the action, and being on the correct side of the outcome of the game...the line of the game is not really an indication of how the game will turn out, its a number the sportsbook line makers thinks that they can get an equal number of wagers on both sides

even if the favorite wins the game it may not cover the spread, and thus the house wins big

So how does the house set the line? Or breaking point? Do they all keep a staff for this or get outside info?
Like when horse racing for example is on the news they will say a horse is “Favored”. Is this because once central source says so or do all the houses come to their own line? And obviously folk must disagree with the line or they would not bet in the first place right?
It seems to me this must be so simple to grasp, ‘cause I’ve seen the folk who take the busses to Saratoga, NY. Yet, I don’t get it yet.

.

they use the Las Vegas disemmination service which "advises" them on what the number should be...the Stardust used to set the line here in town and every one would play off of that number, but now the standard or initial line is usually set at either the LV Hilton or Caesars Palace

Thank You Bon,
I think I am getting it.
I'll bet my 1 dogs afield dollar that Dave will break the truce first.
but we have yet to set the odds right Bon? Yours was just a guess?
We need to have them looked at by the LV Hilton

I am hoping..honestly that both MEN will see that this feud, is now reached silly, pointless, and does no one any good...and the sooner we all move on the better off for all concerned

Soooo, if someone wanted to agree tha Ken was correct & that mr I will be the truce breaker, would they get better odds. Like a dogs afield dollar & a free bottle of ken's maple syrup. Inquiring minds would like to know :).

As do I Bon,
And I am hoping this good natured banter will help both in that realization.
Bon, I think your gonna have to be the house on this betting thing. Because of your expertise.
Imagine, THE RTF Hotel and Casino! Instead of Lions and Tigers we could have retriever demonstrations.
With Show Girls!!!!:p

Do you think we can set up a squares betting pool with Dave on one side and Stan on the other and put the days in there to see who would break the truce first and on which day?

The thing that was wrong was the over-the-top postings. Some of it was like a good sword fight. I, for one, do not read boring books. Some friendly contests ( ribbing etc. ) between people keep it interesting. Too much hate filled posts ruin the flavor ( if you will ). But some "seasoning" is needed. I have to say that I did enjoy some of the exchanges just not the hate that came out ( been guilty of that myself at times ).
