I just got back from turkey hunting on a friend's ranch where in addition to having excellent deer and turkey hunting, he raises cattle and grows wheat. He told us of a new government program that will pay him $50,000 per year for five years. All he has to do is provide a concrete ramp out of all of his metal stock tanks so that when critters fall in they will have a way out and not drown. He wasn't exactly sure of the formula that developed the $50M but it had to do with the number of acres, number of tanks, etc.. Oh, and this is in addition to the $32 per acre per year for CRP. All he has to do there is not grow anything, cut down any cedar trees and I don't think he can graze cattle on it.

Just can't find any areas to cut spending regards,

Farm subsidies should be high on the list for reform. Perhaps there are some "family farma" need some support, but the corporate farms surely don't.

Maybe it doesn't save as much as stopping the wars, but at least it's a start!

I'm a small farmer and haven't received any assistance but I will say this. Since CRP came into existence boy our duck hunting has gotten better.

Trade offs regards,

My intention was not to pick on farmers or any particular organization for that matter but to point out how easy it would be to find wasteful spending like this. They (both sides) don't even look for this kind of crapola. Just imagine how much the program described in the OP will cost Nationwide.

Please explain the oil companies reference? Please base your reforms on facts and not feelings. Thanks
