very disappointed in the ratcheted up rhetoric and speech by James Hoffa at the BHO labor rally yesterday, aimed at the TEA Party, just seems that this type of hatred speech only inflames the discourse and deepens the divide in our country..I am all for "firing up the base" of your chosen political party, but in this case the labor leader went too far:(

No surprise Bon, the only surprise was that Obama didn't say "if they bring a knife, we bring a gun".

Yesterday, Biden was fimed telling a union crowd they were the only ones "keeping the Barbarians from the gate". Nothing new. They only say the want to play civil to get the Republicans to back down... then they keep firing. We have to learn that they mean business when it comes to elections and that they will lie, cheat, steal (remember Acorn?) and anything else to win.

Detroit has seen a lot of violence related to labor relations sponsored by both sides. However, the results of corporate sponsored violence has been way more lethal. The Reuther brothers had numerous assassination attempts. Victor Reuther was blinded in one eye by a shotgun blast through his bedroom window. Genora Dollinger, a UAW activist was brutally beaten with a lead pipe by by an assailant that broke into her home while she was asleep.

It was later revealed by Senator Estes Kefauver’s Investigating Committee that the Mafia, hired by corporate leaders, was responsible for this and other beatings of UAW officials and the shooting of UAW President Walter Reuther and his brother, Victor Reuther.

It is widely known that Walter Reuther was killed in a plane where the altimeter was tampered with. Both Walter and Victor survived a similar plane crash the year before.

I must have missed it. Where was the coorporate proven violence? I saw where you cited mob(union backed?) violence.

Strangely enough, I can remember those hearings but I don't remember even his committee with Democrat kefauver and a majority of democrats on committee coming to that conclusion.

By the way if you are correct did they say corporate leaders OF WHAT COMPANIES? Or did the just say corporate leaders??????

And, basically, the media is giving Hoffa a "pass" on his rhetoric.

I think this opinion piece by Dennis Prager is also in a similar vein when it comes to inflammatory rhetoric.

of course they do because many of them are in a union too...even the head of the DNC, Wasserman-Schulz evaded the question this morning when asked if she would condemn the Hoffa rhetoric

on a side note, I waited on the Hoffa family at the reception of Hoffa's niece...the actually had security come in and sweep the room prior to the event..the bride's mother is a sitting judge in the Chicago area...they actually had as much security at the restaurant as when we had GHW Bush..people tried to crash the event, but were not allowed in

I ran into this site some time ago. Scroll down on the directory page to Genora Johnson Dollinger.

Conditions in most industries were little short of slavery. The auto industry was no exception. Some sort of push back was inevitable. Corporations have been extremely ugly in fighting back unions. Ford had its notorious Harry Bennet, who ran a nasty gang of thugs, for example.

My Dad told of a time when he worked for Ford. His buddy's Ford wouldn't start in the morning and he borrowed the neighbor's Chevrolet. Bennet"s thugs met the man in the parking lot after the shift and beat the sap out of him, seriously enough that he needed hospitalization, before they threw him a pink slip.

Sorry, no proof, no names, no company. Also a union worker's description of senate report and not the actual report.

Actually no proof that Hoffa eliminated by mafia only suppositions. Anybody can make accusations but proof is what counts.

Yes but this was how long ago? We now have a plethora of regulations and laws to protect the U.S. worker and ensure the safety of the workplace so unions and their thugs serve no useful purpose except to countries that benefit from the U.S. outsourcing jobs there. There was a time in our history when Pony Express was the fastest means of communication before telegrams, telephones, radio, TV and the internet, does the fact that it was once useful mean we should keep it around?

Although no proof at least, the stuff that stands up in court. Hoffa disappeared from a restaurant parking lot where he had agreed to a meeting with Tony Giacalone and Anthony Provenzano. Read all about it here:

"Everybody here has got a vote," Hoffa said. "If we go back, we keep the eye on the prize, let's take these sons-of-bitches out and give America back to America where we belong."

Here is a link. (FYI only. This poster does NOT defend Mr. Hoffa's rhetoric. He has to do it himself.)

Surprise, the clip that Faux News ran over and over and over had left the part about "taking out the tea partiers with votes" on the editing room floor.

Can we just stop pretending that Faux is a legitimate news organization and admit that they are nothing more than the media arm of the republican party?

This is the last paragraph from the transcript of Hoffa's speech...

"Thatís what we are going to tell AmericaÖ..When he sees what we are doing here, he will be inspired, but he needs help. And you know what? Everybody here has got a vote. If we go back, we keep the eye on the prize, lets take these sons-of-bitches out and give America back to America where we belong.Ē

I don't understand the last sentence at all. It's a little different than what Buzz quoted. But then, liberals never let facts get in the way of their emotions.

You can correct me if I am wrong but reading the article(not saying it is accurate), It said that Hoffa LATTER SAID THAT HE MEANT BY VOTES, implying he never said that in his speech.

If this is true then how could Fox news leave it out if HE NEVER SAID IT???
