biggest upset of the year so far...the Republicans took a House seat long held by Democrats for almost a century....looks like the Jewish vote didnt take to kindly to the anti Israel rhetoric that the current admin seems to harbor.....

look out in 2012

When a district is over 60% registered Ds, and they elect a R, that could be a message, ya think?

thats actually what I meant to say...but the voters seemed to say it better...after all the district was originally a Chuck Schumer stronghold and then Weiner...BHO better watch out because that same demographic lives in Florida and they dont sit at home on election day ;)

Yeah Schumer is a dork too. I read this morning that was also Geraldine Feraldo's seat. Probably the last class act Dem to hold it...

It was held by Dems since 1922 and the head of the DNC's statement on the loss was "...that has always been a difficult district for us."

The key here is that the seat disappears based on the 2010 census. It's been re-apportioned out of existance and is a win in a lost cause.

Are you sure? NY is set to lose 2 seats in congress, but I don't think they have come to agreement on exactly which two... I'll bet they go after that one now, though...

How convenient for the Ds to lose one of their "difficult districts".

Are you sure?

Merely reporting what I saw on the 5:30 news. I found this today...

"With New York slated to lose two seats due to growth over the last decade that lagged the national average, the 9th is considered ripe territory to be eliminated although no formal redistricting discussions have taken place." Washington Post, 9/14/2011

Since the state legislature is a prime mover in this process, a Republican win in the 9th probably is the kiss of death for the 9th.

You think Obama has maintained the type of relationship with Israel that the USA has historically had with them in the past??
