Michelle Obama dazzles in New York, wearing diamond bangles by H-Town's Katie Decker

By Shelby Hodge
09.21.11 | 02:24 pm
That was no ordinary bling on the wrist of First Lady Michelle Obama at the DNC fundraiser in New York Tuesday night. Those fancy diamond cuffs were the creation of 23-year-old Katie Decker, whose namesake jewelry line has been making a serious splash since her graduation from Texas A&M two years ago.

The native Houstonian is over the moon with the fab pub that photos of the first lady in Katie Decker are already providing. Michelle Obama's stylist picked up the bracelets at Katie's showroom in Fragments in Soho. The bracelets were on loan for the evening; a common practice in the fashion industry. You can see more photos of the Obamas from the evening here by checking out the Gotham Hall event.

If you've been saving your nickels and dimes, the cuffs are available locally at Judith Ann Jewels. The First Lady wore Katie's Lotus cuff priced at $15,000 with 2.9 carats of diamonds, her Gothic cuff at $15,350 with 2.17 carats in diamonds and the Quatrefoil bracelet at $11,800 with 1.73 carats in diamonds.

($42,150 total)

Jobless Claims Exceed 400,00, AGAIN!

More Americans than forecast filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance payments last week as the labor market struggled to improve.

Applications for jobless benefits decreased 9,000 in the week ended Sept. 17 to 423,000, Labor Department figures showed today. Economists forecast 420,000 claims, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey. The average number of claims in the past month rose for a fifth straight week, to the highest level since July 16

From one ridiculus extreme to the other!!!

Brilliant call Buzz......there is no in between is there.
I mean as the economy is TANKING and more and more people are losing everything, by all means, wear $40K worth of BLING!!!

Do you think maybe just a little empathy would be in order??

Do you think just maybe $20K worth of bling could get by?
Or maybe $10K??

How about no bling and some tasteful attire in deference to those not doing so well right now?
With his admitted attack on the "RICH" maybe he could show he is one of "US" by dressing as such.

I don't wear $40K worth of bling to work.

Do YOU Buzz?

But it's OK because of YOUR ideology, so you make excuses and go to the only alternative, gunny sacks.

Really Buzz, I honestly expect a little better from you!!

you can put the crown jewels on the first lady and call her the queen , but it takes class and grace to pull it off..they tried it with Ms Carter, and tried to transform her from a country bumpkin, they made over Hillary using their Hollywood connections, but either way its still trying to polish a turd....there is a term for what the current first lady is doing but that term will have me joining the ranks of those that no longer play here in the mosh pit

There are alot of people selling there bling and toys that they worked hard for just to make ends meet. But your ways of thinking thats just good for the economy.

Agreed. Now if we are going to complain, look no further than what we do with our tax dollars & The UN. That's the retarded part.

The economy does still suck. There's no denying that. I don't think we should say what she can wear with her money though.

Which begs the question, If American corporations are reporting record profits, (Exxon comes to mind) why are they hiring fewer and fewer American workers?
Please don't respond with the standard answer, "uncertainty" There is nothing uncertain about what corporations are doing. Class warfare is being waged in the USA, and it is from the top down. Politics are the diversion they give us so we hopefully don't notice.
But hey, let's play football. JD :p

Because the good paying jobs are in offshore drilling and the current administration has exposed thier contempt for big oil. So, EXXON/Mobile and other oil companies are gradually moving thier whitecollar and bluecollar jobs to more friendly countries.

Class Warfare is being waged from the top down and it begins with our POTUS. It is all he has to run on in 2012!

So....the profit motive is the ultimate driving force. I get it. What might be good for the country may not be good for the shareholders...so damn the USA. Is it possible to produce oil in this country without any restrictions ? Or does the short term always over ride the long term? JD

What's wrong with the profit motive?

Profit is what makes buisnesses expand and not tax breaks. Businesses expand because they see a bright future. People invest in businesses because they believe in that business' model.

It use to be the American Way before big government started choking them at every opportunity. When businesses see an opportunity to make profits and expand, they pay bigger saleries because they need good workers. Those bigger saleries for the worker bees aren't a concern to businesses because they see the bigger picture!

Economist Milton Freedman explains it best...

You've added to you post.

The rest of your post is incomprehensable. Make no sense.

Generally speaking, what's good for business is good for the county as long as everything is above board.

Produce oil without restrictions ???

Major businesses operate in the long term. Nothing is short term in the oil business. Price of oil is global, maybe you should send a letter to the leader of China and ask him to consume less.

Today just about everyone is a shareholder ... if you have a 401K, if you have an IRA, if you have a pension plan.

Whether we like it or not, the profit motive IS always ultimately the driving force. If we look at the communist and socialist models, they ultimately break down more quickly than the profit motive. Soviet Union, China. China's growth is driven by the workers who want "profit" for their own households. Even the UK is now encouraging people to go outside of their single-payer health network.

The govt does have a responsibility to protect the citizens from abuses ... but the problem seems to lie in defining the parameters of govt intrusion on the free market system.

Well there lies the glitch. If things are not "above board" Who regulates? The industry themselves? JD

Not entirely.

Lets take the BP spill in the gulf since it is still fresh in our memory.

The saftey regs were in place, the rules were written by our Federal Government, and penalities where there. The FED agencies were all just asleep at the wheel! Enjoying thier cush, no pressure government class jobs.

Human error creates a disaster.

Human works for BP.

Do you think any one at BP wanted this to happen?

The loss of half a trillion dollars not to mention the damage to the BP brand?

You can bet that every drilling company checked every well in operation within 48 hours!

Yet Obama, whether it be for political reasons or distain for big oil decided he was going to punish them by stopping ALL drilling in the gulf!

Want to take a shot at how much that cost the tax payer? The American tax payer being the most wonderful of all creatures because without then/us how could we handout entiltements and support wasteful government!

I'm NOT a Tea Partier and will stick with the originals.
