So the developer of the mosque project has filed a lawsuit. Since the suit is agreeing that the appropriate rent is about 1/2 of what Con Ed is asking, why are they not negotiating instead of wasting public funds by going to court?

One interesting comment from a reader implied that if politicians could exert pressure on owners of Zuccotti Park to accommodate the protest taking place there, that such politicians will also pressure Con Ed to do something similar for the mosque development.

Evidently, the mosque project has enough money to pay the rent they've cited (around $880,000), but not enough to purchase the building from Con Ed (valued at around $10.2 million).

IMHO those behind the mosque project got what they wanted from the deal...publicity....by making it front page news and thumbing their noses at America, as if to say " try and stop us if you can"...and in predictable fashion, along with a willing media, the US govt played their role perfectly and predictably
