I hadnít seen or heard of this before, a truly amazing circumstance on 9/11.

Well worth the watch, about 10 plus minutes long.Wait until you hear the number of people assisted towards the end of the video. http://www.youtube.com/embed/MDOrzF7B2Kg?rel=0 (http://www.youtube.com/embed/MDOrzF7B2Kg?rel=0)

I never heard of this part of the 9-11 story before. Truly an awesome feat ... everyday people made a big difference.

I wasn't aware that that had happened to that degree....dwarfed Dunkirk. Pretty inspiring. Thanks for posting.

Here's another story some might not know...40 jumbo jets and nearly 7k passengers grounded for days in tiny Gander, Canada in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and how the townsfolk pitched in to house/feed them all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmuhQcqRztE&feature=related

This is what patriotism is about. It is not about politics, waving the flag in front of controversy. A people can and will come together to make a way for their fellows. What a sad day it was, and even sadder how we did not come together as a result.

One wonders why we had all not heard of this before. One wonders why these everyday people were not recognized for their brave actions? At the time, some of these people started out thinking the city was being bombed. They went anyway.

In the video, one of the people remarked ... there was no training for this; nothing they had been taught "in school". Someone got an idea. Someone realized it had to be "organized" .. and then they just came together and got it done ... in a remarkable fashion!

There were no politicians or bureaucrats directing this rescue effort :-) The Coast Guard and NY Waterway were the closest to that.

I think this is a sad comment. The nation was most certainly united in the aftermath of 9/11. Maybe more united then, than in any other time in American history.

Political bull$&!t has divided us since then, but to say that we were not united then is not true.
