This is interesting reading on the controversial Supreme Court decision on corporations & unions being considered "individuals" in regard to free speech.

The controversy was that corporations & unions would have almost unlimited ability to contribute to political candidates ... but it is not quite like that

The Court did uphold requirements for disclaimer and disclosure by sponsors of advertisements. The case did not involve the federal ban on direct contributions from corporations or unions to candidate campaigns or political parties, which remain illegal in races for federal office.

Since the law in question, McCain-Feingold, exempted media corporations from the law, it was all right for a newspaper or other media to "endorse" a candidate (in media), but any other corporation or union could not do so.

They show the varying opinions of the Court's decision, and it was worth reading. Rather sleep-inducing, at some points, I'll admit :-)
