Open was a triple with a short, retired check down on the left, thrown hip pocket (tight) to the flyer station, middle gun. On the right was the long bird. The gunner was retired in heavy bush to the back and left of a huge mound, nick named Mt. Everest. On top of the mound, the judges laid a line of hay bales across the top and then spread hay out on the backside of the bales so the bird would not be readily visible. The gunner came out and made a monster throw up the top and to the back of the hay bales. The throw was so difficult, only Bill Cox could do it. On this mark, the dogs negotiated some small water up front and then over a medium mound and on out. Order was left short, right long, flyer.

There were plenty of hunts and pickups and as the day progressed and the wind changed and came off the short retired, very few dogs were successful.

Callbacks to the 2nd--2,3,5,7,9,10,12,13,14,18,19,20,23,24,25,27,30,32,3 3,36,38,39,40,42,44,50,51,52,53,61

The Am and Qual were run today under very difficult conditions. The morning saw the winds build until they were blowing around 45mph-55mph with higher gusts. This afternoon the winds continued with some driving rain.

Am callbacks to the 2nd-
1,2,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,13,16,18,19,20,21,22,24,25,26, 27-37.

Am callbacks to the 3rd-
2,4-8,12,19-22,24,25,26,29,31-36

The Am water blind was started but after about 5 or 6 dogs, the test was stopped due to high winds with driving rain as well as the need to get vehicles onto paved roads. The Am will begin at 0800 tomorrow.

Sorry, I don't have info on the Qual. I did hear that Linda Erwin's dog won the Derby and that Andy Kahn's dog took 2nd.

I hope the rain and wind have departed. I know what a slippery muddy mess it can be if it rains in Niland. Good luck to all today!
