if he had only been properly vetted back in '08..kind of sad that 4 yrs into the administration that the media is finally looking into his past and asking questions that should have been answered long ago...unfortunately that audio only goes to show what many suspected and will be spun by the sympathetic media types

I am wondering if the movie 2016 has any impact on Obama believers. I am wondering if any of them going to see it? I am wondering if any of them have read or have listened to his books, Dreams of My Father.

I really don't understand Obama and his devotion to a father who abandoned his mother and him. It doesn't sound like his father was around to have a personal influence nor to provide guidance and love.

I have read the books by Dinesh D'Souza and they are very inciteful as to why BHO feels the way he does...There are also more than one theory out there that Frank Marshall Davis who was a known Communist had a bigger influence on the young BHO,since they spent time together...One book by some other author goes as far to suggest that FMD was his real biological father and that his mother has a dark and sorted past with Davis..I do not subscribe to that theory but it makes you take a look

Overlooked in the 1998 speech is that Obama believes the majority of Americans would like to have serious gun control. He's been working on the redistribution thing in his first term. Is he saving the latter for his 2nd term?

WRT redistribution ... as another poster mentioned, if the govt confiscated all the wealth of the very rich ... it would run the govt for only a short period of time. The knotty problem is, of course, you can only do that once. After that "the rich" have no more money to be confiscated. And, who would try to rebuild what was taken from them if it could just as easily be taken from them a second time?

Paraphrasing from Ayn Rand, would you let your own child starve in order to feed your neighbor's child? You would starve yourself in order to feed your own child, but would you let your child starve to feed someone else's child?

So it would seem much "wiser" to let them keep some of their earnings, so that they will continue to work. Just let them contribute their "fair share" ... which some bureaucrat decides. In France they are raising the income tax on "the rich" to 75%. Guess what? Those people are looking to move to some other country that will tax them less. Would any of us work for 25% of what we now earn? Could we survive on that?

Now if "the rich" flee this taxation, where will the govt get its money? It will have to raise the taxes on those who are not as rich as those who have fled. In cases like this, historically, the country will allow people to leave, but they must leave their wealth behind.

I knew a businessman who had been living in Rhodesia when it was "liberated" from colonialism. Rhodesia had such a rule. You could leave, but you had to leave your wealth behind. This businessman and his father owned a small, light aircraft they used for their business. They mortgaged all they could, took the cash and purchased rubies, put the "compact" wealth in their pockets, got on the plane & got out of Dodge. They came here to the US with their wealth. I'm sure there will be some country that will accept the rich people who would want to flee France.

That's probably a bad example ... as it would be depicted as one of the ways that the US "stole" wealth from an African country. Did the wealth belong to the country? or to those who had created the wealth?

when I click on the link, it takes me to the Daily Caller, but I can't find anything about redistribution.

I listened to this twice and never heard him say anything about redistribution. Could be my hunter's hearing. Can someone tell me about when in the speech it occurs?

The trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some [wealth] redistribution -- because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody’s got a shot.”
