When will all of the elected officials quit dragging their feet and just do the job they were hired/elected to do? Not just this group,or that group, the entire country. Quit pouting like a bunch of grade school kids, and get the job done.

If I had to bet, it would be at the very last minute and then they will both say the other side was the hold up. Our elected officials no longer represent America they represent the groups that pay to get them elected. While the majority of the US hangs out toward the middle most elected officials are extremist.

What job is it you think they were elected to do? In general the less they do the better off we are!

Balance a budget for starters. Compromise to avoid this "fiscal cliff" would be another thing they were elected to do.

Capitol Hill employees owed $9.3 million in overdue taxes at the end of last year, a sliver of the $1 billion owed by federal workers nationwide but one with potential political ramifications for members of Congress.

The debt among Hill employees has risen at a faster rate than the overall tax debt on the government's books, according to Internal Revenue Service data. It comes at a time when some Republican members are pushing for the firings of government workers who owe the IRS and President Obama has urged a crackdown on delinquent government contractors.

The IRS information does not identify delinquent taxpayers by name, party affiliation or job title and does not indicate whether members of Congress are among the scofflaws. It shows that 638 employees, or about 4 percent, of the 18,000 Hill workers owe money.

The average unpaid tax bill is $12,787 among the Senate's delinquent taxpayers and $15,498 among those working in the House.

If they don't have a job to do, then why in the world are we paying them? Someone please tell me what they are elected to do. Sounds like they just run for office, get elected/hired and sit on their thumbs and take taxpayer money. I want that job.

If someone would propose one and then they get in a room and hash it out to make it work. There have been offers from both sides, and both sides have rejected the other side's proposal. doing nothing and getting paid. Who are the real "takers" in this country?

The democratic controled senate has not submitted a budget in 4 years now. How can you hash something out that has not beeen proposed? The american people have elected devided government, same players as before. Do you expect something different now? The old saying of Throw the bumms out comes to mind. That is not what happened this election, just more of the same.
