FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES IT WILL LEAVE COLORADO IF GUN BILL PASSES

MOVE WOULD COST STATE 600 JOBS, $85 MILLION

Denver, Colorado – February 15th, 2013 - Magpul Industries, an Erie, Colorado, based manufacturer of firearms accessories, announced today that it will be forced to leave the state if House Bill 1224, which would ban standard capacity magazines, becomes law. The announcement was made to Governor Hickenlooper, state legislators, members of the media, and in a full-page advertisement to appear in the Denver Post on Sunday.

Richard Fitzpatrick, Founder, President, and CEO of Magpul Industries, said that regardless of any amendments that may be worked into the bill, he will no longer be able to continue to do business in Colorado if his core product is made illegal.

“Our company could not, in good conscience, continue to manufacture our products in a state where law-abiding citizens are prohibited from purchasing and owning them. ” Fitzpatrick said. “The passage of this bill will do nothing to enhance public safety, but will force us to immediately begin taking our business to another state.”

A proponent of the bill argued that with the amendment language, the choice to stay or leave was up to Magpul. Fitzpatrick responded, "Our relationship with our customers across the country would be severely damaged if this bill passes and we stay. We've already heard word of potential boycotts if that happens. They (legislators) really need to understand that our customer base is as passionate about freedoms as we are, and staying here if this bill passes would cripple the company. Make no doubt about it...we have no choice, and would be forced to leave in order to save the business."

Magpul cited the example of the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show, which was canceled earlier this year after the organizers announced that it would not permit a popular category of firearm, like the ones Magpul makes accessories for, in the show. Public outcry from the customer base forced exhibitors to withdraw from participation, causing the cancellation of the show, and an estimated loss of $70 million of show revenue for hotels, restaurants, merchants, and other businesses in Pennsylvania, where the show was to be held.

Magpul Industries directly employs 200 people, supports another 400 supply-chain jobs, and contributes over $85 million annually to Colorado’s economy. Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul, says that it is a difficult position to be in. "We could choose to stay in a state that wants our jobs and revenue, but not our products, and lose half the jobs we are fighting to save, or potentially the entire business, when our customers stop buying. Or, we can take the company and those 600 jobs out of Colorado to continue our growth and the growth of American manufacturing in a state that shares our values. This is not really a choice. It's an unfortunate and inevitable result of the actions of the Legislature if this bill passes."

Magpul was started over a decade ago by Fitzpatrick, a former U.S. Marine. It has become one of Colorado’s fastest growing businesses, successfully marketing its products to American and allied military forces, police departments, sporting goods stores, and thousands of responsible private citizens. Fitzpatrick says that the rich western culture and strong values of individual freedom and responsibility, traditionally found in Colorado, were one of the reasons the company chose to remain in the state.

“It is heartbreaking to me, my employees, and their families, to think that we will be forced to leave,” Fitzpatrick said. “But if HB13-1224 passes, we will simply have no choice.”

Crap similiar to this is lurking in MN. It has not made it into a bill or onto the house floor yet, but if it did, and became law, DPMS would be shut down as it would be illegal to manufacture as well as posess a AR platform rifle.

I'm speech less. Same thing should happen in Illinois, they are home to some pretty big firearm manufactures also. I hope that Magpul is willing to make it worth while for its employees to pick up and move with them, right down to the building maintenance staff.

Colorado is not a right to work state. I wonder if this is a Union shop. If so, I doubt they will subsidized employees moving expenses. Colt is building a manufacturing plant in Florida at this moment. They are taking proactive measures for the up and coming Connecticut legislation.

I've been telling everyone I can for years: Texas is a hell-hole. Unbelievably hot!! Nothing but hurricanes, scorpions, cactus, and rattlesnakes. Bunch of gun toting bubbas in pickups spitting snuff juice all over the place. Only an idiot would move here of their own free will. Anyone thinking of moving here, think twice, save yourself!!! Please don't come.

The progressives have been coming for years.
Warnings have been sounded often.

How many times has it been posted here, the progressives could care less about criminals and guns.

They want an unarmed citizenry.

Mocked, dismissed and laughed at, now it's here!
We let this happen folks.
WE are responsible.......we let it go and didn't fight back.

There is a fight coming, I have said it for years.
Many have very tough decisions ahead.
Many people here that vote Democrat now need cheese to go with their posts on this thread......YOU let it happen.

AS much as I dislike NRA due to the money involved now, I support them because it's all we have.

BTW---When the fight comes, it's gonna get dirty, because the progressives have NO bottom.
There is NO depth they won't go to......any one paying attention the last 5 years knows this.

BTW-My challenge on this is:
We talk about responsibility of others, let us be responsible for our own destiney, get involved, or you will lose it all!!!

Stan, they are winning the fight. We are being unarmed without a shot being fired. Who would have ever dreamed this would happen in America (other than the loony left?).

Our enemies didn't want to fight us here in WWII because they knew almost every citizen had a gun... Now, we are disarming ourselves like sheep.

Scary shit no doubt, but lets NOT give up the fight
This thing still has to pass the Senate, get the gov to sign it and stand up to court challenges if all that happens. I'd say the NRA will fight this all the way to the SCOTUS particularily the requirement criminalizing private gun transfers would have a good chance of being struck down by a court. IMHO

I grew up in Colorado, and still have a place there. I am bombarding people with letters, emails, calls etc. We all need to get off our asses and be heard. And I dont mean sounding off on internet message boards like this one. Its our country and our rights; we need to fight for them

My guess is if anyone wants to spend the time, you can page through several of my posts back when the head of the libs, Yardley was posting here. It was my view that the socialists, lefties, liberals etc...in other words DEMOCRATS, were crapping in their own messkits by voting for leftists. Back then, the big gun control issue was at the UN, and of course Yardley said whatever that august body does concerning guns, would have to be ratified by congress. He wasn't wrong, of course. It was just my view that the more lefties he and his ilk put in congress, the closer we were to getting that ratification. He and his followers on POTUS said it could never happen. How in the hell can people that seem quite smart at times, display such idiotic logic.

I said back then, and continue to maintain the view, you cannot play dog games, be a hunter, and support the Democrats. Now that you've let the genie out of the bottle, I'm anxious to hear just what you fools intend to do to protect YOUR ox from being gored.

Try to stay focused here UB. This isnt about Yardley, the UN or Congress. It is about a state law in Colorado. A state that most view as being neither red or blue, but purple
. That means it can be a good litmus test for what the mainstream is thinking. So its time for you to quit ranting on the internet and start acting
on real issues.

NO, you Democrat yahoos have already relinquished those rights. You can't have it both ways, no more than the right-to-life democrat that goes to DC thinking she can turn her party around, and get RVW overturned. You fools think you can vote for continued freebies from Obama, and just can't understand when it's time for him to push through his gun control agenda, he'll keep your views in mind.

Elections have consequences, and now it's time to gore your ox.

UB

The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but the citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency.

It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency, than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us.

Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those that made him their President.

Has ANYone proposed any gun control legislation that would actually keep guns out of the hands of criminals? Or get any guns out of the hands of criminals? Seems that everything proposed is directed at law-abiding citizens. When was the last time a criminal submitted to a background check to get a gun? Even the Sandy Hook shooter, a crazy person, had to steal the guns he had with him.

You are exactly right. God forbid someone proposes stiffer penalties for those that try and buy a gun but fail the background for lying. Chicago's problems could be fixed a bunch by empowering the officers just like they did in NY and then actually prosecute the ones arrested for not obeying the gun laws. Instead they try to interfere with my ability to legally buy a gun or magazine.

SOP to take away gun rights of convicted felons. Has been for years
The problem is felons dont obey laws; if they did they wouldn't be felons!!

For all the fuss made about Akin's stupid comment during the fall campaign, nobody bats an eye over this:

“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop around at somebody.”

Well, after all, you might not get raped. In Salazar’s world, not only are women incapable of defending themselves against a physical threat, but they are incapable of even identifying a physical threat, and should therefore be deprived of the ability to try. Empowerment! I guess if you are raped, there’s this…safe zone. Look, colleges are welcome to establish safe zones (though criminals are notoriously unobservant of such signage), call boxes, lighted paths, and whistles to help prevent campus attacks. I have benefited from at least a few of these tools, and begrudge no one their use. But I would also like women who choose to arm themselves, in the event that safe zones, call boxes, lights, and whistles don’t work, to retain the right to their chosen tool of prevention.
Advice to women from Colorado University include this nugget:

Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.

I think Lainee is being very polite referring to the emotion as being one of SADNESS!!

I am way past Sad!!

I'm FUUUMIN MAD!

During the elections of these Morons,, Gun talk was off the table.. It was all about economy, budgets, and all. Gun controll was rarely brought up.

Once they got in office,, and a Horrible trdgedy happened,, they jump right on it and exploit it..
They shouls be ashamed.!! NOT ONE of laws they want to pass, would have stopped Sandy Hook,, or Columbine.. neith one..

It just infuriates me.

I recently purchased a Pistol. The only way that pistol comes, is with a 19 round capacity magazine. The manuafacture ,that I contacted, say thay have no palns to make a less capacity magazine for it..
Now Iunderstand,, I will be Grandfathered in, along with the 4 extra magazines I purchased when I bout the pistol,, but,, I am not going to feelcomfortable with the thing out in public, when Ihave to maybe explain I bought the Pistol and Mags before the ban!!

Waht a buncha horseshit!!

Yes!! This is ONE of the reasons I want to leave this miserable state.
The Folks that have moved here from other places dont understand the culture of Colorado.. Thay want it different..They only live on emotion...

I garee with what some herer have said about Boycott... Boycott there hunting seasons,, Boycott that silly charge they charge you outa staters to hunt Bull Elk here... They deserve what they get.

My hunting dollar is going out of state.. It has for sometime already...

I contacted Both my Senators this morning...

Mr Udalls Office is an absolute catastrphy.. The Condecending "aid" I had on the phone only replied to my concerns with Smirks,, and asking if I was being ridiculous when I asked they support the second ammendment.. The "aid" told me that nothing that is being sugested goes against my second ammendment rights... When I argued my point, she laughed at me.!!

Folks,, Thats MY REPRESENTATION in Colorados Government!!!

Gooser,

It is dang sad to see what happened to Colorado the other day. I can't imagine (and hope I never have too) how people like you and Lainee feel. It is sad that SO many from Cali have moved in and ruined such a good state. I was actually coming to CO fishing this summer, guess I will be heading to either Wyoming or Montana now. The fight is far from over in CO, but I have a feeling the NRA, 2nd Ammendment Foundation and others are beating a dead horse.

What I will say is this, you and your guns are welcome in GA!! The only gun law here that I don't like is, I can't hunt with my supressor (that is being voted on as we speak). Other than that, we are a very, very gun friendly state! Pack your things up and start heading this way, Mableton is only 30 minutes from me. I promise ya there is plenty of dog training in this area too and tons of shooting!!!

When I contacted the Governers office, and read that offices "aid" a quote from what Hickenloopy sais after the auroa movie shooting, that basically siad he didnt (At that point in time) belived that adding guns laws would do anything to solve the problem.

He has faced opposition from his lefty constituency and has now flipp flopped his position. His office has stated they will sign all 4 of the proposed bills if they get to his desk.. (SPINLESS SOB)

They listened to me,, but I really had a sense I was talkin to a deaf ear..
They politly thanked me and Hung up..

The Guns shop I LEGALLY mind you, bought the pistol,, said that if the magazine bill passes,,he will basically be forced to go out of business.
Most all the pistols and Rifles he sells has high capacity magazines defined under the proposed legislation..
That gun shop will prolly go away!!!

Sorry to say, Mike...this should come as no surprise. You and other Rads have been subjected to the teachings of radicals in almost every institution in that state. Boulder is a haven for gun control activists, in addition to every program that puts down hunting of all types. Why do you think Rich got out as early as he could? The many forms of liberalism, socialism, Marxism, that have eminated from the various Colorado colleges and universities is nothing new. It's just now manifesting itself in the grads of those fine institutions.
