Judy, thanks for the book recommendations. I will research those titles today. Both sound like great resources! I have trained with Julie a time or two and have helped her put on our club's yearly HT in August.
I saw that you are judging the Potland FT in May with Judy R.! That has inspired me to travel up and enter the Derby so that I can see both of you in action and get to meet you! Hopefully it will all come together. Husband has a conference in Napa that same weekend and is trying to convince me into going. It will be a bit of an arm wrestling match.
Thanks again for your thoughts and recommendations! Can't wait to get my Gertrude F books in the mail any day now!
Jennifer, I wanted to recommend The World of the Golden Retriever by Nona Bauer, if you don't have it. It's an amazing collection of photos of famous dogs prior to '93, most of them in color. The chapter on field trial Goldens is over 30 pages long with more field photos throughout including pictures of Goldens around the world. Nona contacted people actively competing in obedience, field, show, etc. and asked for pictures and information. It's a wonderful collection of pictures of dogs in our pedigrees of today.
You also might look for Julie Cairns' book on the Golden Retriever. She has pictures and stories about slightly more recent field trial Goldens like Duncan not included in Nona's book.
Hope to meet up with you at a trial someday. I am usually at the February trials in CA and occasionally at the Lost Hills trials when I am traveling through California. I hope to get to the GRCA National in Texas this year, so I may hit Lost Hills on my way south.
