Being a petsitter, I recently began sitting for a 7 month old pudelpointer. Knowing nothing about this breed I began searching for info on them. Out of all the breeds I have enjoyed, this pudelpointer is, by far, the most amazing dog of all. Anyone looking for a sporting dog should look into this breed. I understand from the owner, there were only 358 puppies born of this breed in 2016. The dog was available in the Oregon, Colorado areas located within open fields and the owners are either hunters or spend much of their time out of doors. It's imperative your pudelpointer have PLENTY of open space and access to fields, woods and nature. Unless you can give him a ton of room to hunt, sniff, run and do all the things they enjoy and are best suited for, this dog is not for you. They're an open-air dog but at the end of the day, a lover. His environment and a well-suited family is THE most important factor you should consider before adopting this breed.
  2. Ed,
I was involved in retriever trials in the late 80's and early 90's. I had one really good bitch that I did well with but just got sick of the politics and found it very hard to compete with the rich and famous in the sport. I got out of that game and finally enjoyed hunting my retriever's, something I would never had thought of doing with my FT dog. About 4 years ago my son wanted a pointing dog and I started to do some research and found out about the Pudelpointer. I was attracted to the breed because I found they were considered the most natural retrievers out of all the pointing breeds. I just wrote a 3,000 charecter response and it said I cant go past 1113 charecters. Please call me at 516-297-9402 with any questions

Hi. I am very curious about pudelpointers especially their trainability and their ability to handle the cold waters around us. Any information from a first hand experience would be great. Thanks
