After earning a doctor of veterinary medicine from Washington State University in 1999, Dr. Brown completed an internship at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2000 and a surgery residency at Michigan State University in 2003. Dr. Brown was on the faculty at Virginia Tech’s Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center from 2003 to 2010. Dr. Brown is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
After moving to Tampa, FL in 2010 Dr. Brown took the opportunity to transition into small animal practice. She maintains a strong interest in surgery as well as canine sports medicine and rehabilitation. She is in the process of becoming a Certified Rehabilitation Therapist through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute as well board certification through the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
In addition surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Brown is very passionate about disaster and emergency response. She has participated in many areas of disaster response including the National Disaster Medical System's National Veterinary Response Team, American Veterinary Medical Association’s VMAT teams. She currently is the team veterinarian and K-9 Search Specialist with FEMA FL TF-2 Urban Search and Rescue. She also serves on AVMA’s Committee on Disaster and Emergency Issues.
