Congrats Paul !
Way to go,,, Congrats!!!
I remember talking with you when you were first starting with him. Huge congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment!
Thanks guys, 4 days later its still hard to believe. Yes I have a great training group and I am very lucky that they put up with me. :D I will say now, that when I started this process, I had only trained one hunting dog previously. I had NO CLUE how much work is involved in getting a dog to this level. Basically 5-6 days a week for 2 years. We were also blessed here in the northeast in 2011-2012 with the mildest winter on record, which let us continue our training all winter long, that was a huge help. At times I do wish that we had run this guy in some Derbies, because his marking is really outstanding, but we all talked about it and felt that even though he was 90% set, that 10% could cause problems down the road. Looking back I do occasionally wonder how he would have done, but I am not second guessing the decision at all, I think we made the right choice by keeping our sights on major stakes and the end product.
Now we will keep training, but he is also my primary hunting dog so he will get lots of ducks, geese and pheasants this fall and winter. Really looking forward to that!
Huge Congrats, and good luck in the future.
