A local dog was caught in a Conibear trap at a public training area earlier this year. The Fire Dept. was called and they had difficulty freeing the dog from the trap. These videos would have been helpful.

Hat to ask, but did the dog survive? Conibears are designed to kill.

I'll note that the traps are not "illegal" in Wa. State although, they are prohibited from this particular public use area.
When working with conibear traps it is helpful to have a large channel lock pliers trapping suppliers also have special pliers. In most cases they are supposed to be used under water i use them for muskrats and beaver but not above qater and never where my dogs go the larger conibears could easily kill a dog jf they got their head in it
Just squeeze the springs one at a time and hook the safety hook to the other side of the spring. 220's and smaller don't have that strong of springs a person cannot squeeze them by hand. A 330, that's a different animal.
If you have a regular lead rope or leash it will fit through the loop of the spring but I would run the clasp through and then pull together and wrap the rope around until you can lock the spring with the spring latch
We had an idiot who set a trap like this last year right on a road that lead to a popular duck hole here in Ga. A hunter found it with his foot and not his dog. This was one of the few mornings his 9 year old daughter was not with him. DNR was called. They came back and camped out on the trap and caught the idiot who set it. He was not suppose to set the traps in the area, nor did he have his name and phone number on the traps like is required by law in Ga. Did I say idiot?
