Their Back! Last night was the first time in 3 years anyone showed up at our door. There were a few little kids but mostly teenagers not even in a costume and one 50+ lady that just showed up with her hand out.
There is a movement in some fundamentalist churches to not recognize halloween in any form. These churches often practice secondary seperation too.
There are some churches that have a 'Trunk and Treat' or other event for children. I think this provides a safer, more controlled environment especially for small children. Some of these churches will them promote that as a halloween alternative, implying that halloween is demonic. If you truley believe halloween is demonic I think you need to do more than change the name!
Our town has one street where the residients have historically given out full size candy bars. Kids from all over town flock to this street. My wife and I were driving home toawrds the end of Trick or Treat time and were surprised at how barren the sidewalks were, until we got to High St. We thought it was kind of sad because all the kids go to just a couple of blocks and the other neighborhoods are empty. We weren't there to pass out candy last night for the first time in 10 years. On an average year we have a hard time handing out two bags of candy with most kids getting at least two pieces.

I guess its still alive and well here, I had to work night shift but I talked to two people in town, one had 180 children trick or treating and the other had 223.
Zero kids at my house but that is nothing new. Very few kids around here as it is an older subdivision and many owners kids are long grown. But we have a few houses that have changed hands and have kids. LIghts were on but I have a nasty driveway. Back in the day we always hit those houses first because as a kid we got a bonus for that. Kinda sucks! At least Magic and Piper had Halloween fun, since they are both working therapy dogs.
I guess in our area that churches are all having parties for the kids. We had zero this year knocking on our door. I always figured we were paying the kids for the entertainment we got out of seeing the costumes. It is my birthday so I always considered it as my party, VBG. Oh, well. I get to eat lots of candy this year !
