Retrieving ducks on land
My lab will be 10 in Feb., he still has plenty of energy for his age. This season he has started giving me trouble retrieving ducks from land......he will find the duck, stand over the duck and look at me......I will have to tell him a couple times to fetch before he will......he does not have this issue if he swims to the duck......when he swims to the duck he will fetch it and bring it to me..........please help I am confused.
He has done great until this year. I know he is getting al little aged.
Thanks for your time,
James

the old man is saying to you, "I found it, you can walk over to get this one"
and at 10 yrs old he knows you cannot walk on water.
welcome to the RTF
old dogs are cool ain't they!
edit - also, just for kicks. pop open the hood and look round for a sore tooth.

Maybe he's just catching his breath before heading back? I've seen an old dog need to do this before finishing a retrieve.

He's telling you he'd rather go for a swim!!

Make sure all of your ducks land in water not on land. Problem solved. Second on checking the old boys teeth.

Teeth are good...........I guess he is just like old people.......better for them to do their exercise in water........better on the joints....... Lol

What exercise? Young smart arse!

I wish I was young.......I am heading to the pool right now.
