Riot (by Ruckus) - puppy retrieving
I finally figured how to get a video from FB to RTF. :)
This is a video of my puppy Riot retrieving in the backyard with hand tossed bumpers. So far his training has been all informal except for the last week where I have started to add some pressure for sit and here, however the heeling, returning with the bumper and spitting them out at my feet are all treat/reward based type of training. He is also in the teething phase so I'm not worried about his goofing with the bumper right now (just a couple weeks ago he had a nice fetch and hold). Also I'm not worried about him spitting the bumper out at my feet - I want him to go get the bumper and come back to me. Also I have not enforced steadiness with him even though he has made the connection to wait until I call his name. Riot is bout 5 months old. He gets hand tossed marks in the back yard in the morning and marks out in the field with a bird thrower (my husband) on the weekends, we have him stretched out to around 100-125 yards with no cover using 3" white bumpers. Daylight savings is really kicking our rears when it comes to training!
At the end of the video I made the mistake of telling him "That's it!" so he decided playing with the bumper/rope that come off was more fun! Also note this training session was all of a couple minutes, long enough to keep his attention span and not too long as to make him be bored and really want to play around (i.e. keep away, chase, not returning, etc).
Enjoy...
