Pup with tooth left
Hey all. I have a Lab pup that is 5.5 months old. All adult teeth have been in for close to a month now, except for one upper canine. The puppy tooth is still there, with no sign of the adult tooth poking through.
Any experience with this? Something to get checked out yet?
Thanks

Should be fine no worries a missing tooth is not that big a deal. Is it an English line of Lab? You know those English have bad teeth.

Thanks, no he's all American, but I'm now picturing him with an Austin Powers grill! :D

Are you sure about the adult teeth? Count the premolars and the molars, top and bottom. The canine teeth usually come in after the premolars, followed by the molars. If he is done he should have 4 premolars and 2 molars on the top (each side) and 4 premolars and 3 molars on the bottom (each side). Odd if these are in for a whole month and yet no canine.
Here's a pic:

Panda, the pup in my avatar, had to have her puppy canines pulled at about 5 mos. But her adult canines had come in so she just had a crowded mouthful of teeth. I would check with a vet, the baby teeth normally do fall out but sometimes they need to be pulled and a vet would be the best judge of that. The puppy canine might be keeping the permanent tooth from erupting.

Had a dog that had a baby canine and adult trying to occupy the same space for several months. One day low and behold, just the adult tooth was there. Should be OK. Worse things can happen!

Our latest pup seemed to hang on to a puppy canine for the longest time. One day doing walking fetch with big plastic bumpers knocked it out. Fine after that.

Thanks for the replies. Mitty, yes all the adult teeth are in for sure (minus the one canine), thanks for the link. I'll give it a while. Maybe as the temps drop, and bumbers get stiffer, he'll knock it out!

both of my pups canines stayed in longer than any of the other teeth. the adults were actually coming in and the puppy canine was hanging on by a thread i debated pulling it but like others say one day it was there and the next gone.
