The QAA (Qualified All Age)designation is accheaved by winning a 1st or 2ND in a Q... or a placement or JAM in n AA.
Having done so the dog is Qualified to run the more restrictive of the AA stakes such as the Limited ....
A JAM (Judges Award of Merit) is awarded to dogs who have completed a FT with a meritorious performance but it was not good enough for one of the 4 placements.
Here are a few more terms that it might serve you well to know http://www.retrievertraining.net/got.htm

thank you for the information.
There is also a Reserve JAM awarded often. The Reserve JAM is similiar to the JAM but if something were to happen to one of the four placements, the Reserve JAM would move up to a placement.
Thanks to Dr. Ed for explaining that to me a while back.
