Although I don't really condone the kind of ridicule displayed in the original post, one truly great thing about western culture and the Judeo/Christian tradition is that so far nobody is calling for a fatwa against Franco. No riots, no death threats (unless they were PM'd ;-) ). Although most here have heard my position on religion, I do find this choice of Pope interesting on several levels. The Jesuits have a pretty interesting history from what I understand. A long standing respect for learning. A fairly austere outlook. Tough. The new Pope is also relatively old. Probably won't be one of the longest serving Popes. As educators who were frequently in charge of children, I wonder what percentage of the priests accused of child molestation were Jesuits or had been educated by Jesuits.
