Old girl acting wierd.
I think she is just getting eccentric in her old age, but, Tommie is 13.5 yo. Over the last few weeks, she would be in the house(on her couch!) and all of a sudden dive off and go to the door. This happened several times in a night. Thats progressed to her not wanting to be inside with us( me and the other dogs) much, or even at all. She may come in for a few minutes and then head for the door. Lately wont even sleep inside- I have a crate in the puppy barn with blankets in it-so she at least has a 'spot" to go to.
Also, more weak in the rear, but not bad- still wants to go for (and does) our nightly walk/run/swim.
Coat getting dull.
But, she has not lost drive to EAT at all... same old Tommie there- but just acting wierd.... Not sure what a vet visit will tell me-other than she is aging.
Anyone experience anything like this ..... I dont want to accept that she is aging, but its a no brainer....
Could she be hot indoors? Have you tested her thyroid?
I think old dogs are like old people, their mental functions fail along with physical abilities. Small strokes & other ailments don't help the overall situation. I am going through the same issues with a dog that is about the same age.
Yes it is hard watching then get old and trying to figure them out. Here is one time I hope I read him right. Try to give the best and let him do what he pretty well wants. Mine is still very active and nearing 11. Noticed his back end wobbly but when he is out in the field he is still going!:) Sleeps alot more.
It has been my experience that aging dogs suffer dementia. They ask to go out in the yard and then forget why they wanted to go out, etc. We are all going to reach that situation if we live long enough. Sounds like you are doing your very best to make her comfortable and happy.
