Best I ever had was some big ones out of the Pecos river.
Me and one guy had paddled out to a big rock and we were on it catching bait. He tied the canoe to a nail in the rock and I said that aint going to work so I checked it and said its fine.
Turned around a little latter canoe was gone. The guy on land was scared of water so he wouldnt go after it.
Swim back to shore go down stream and trough some cane brush and charged buy javelinos. Interesting morning:D
We've never bleed them or hang em out,but with the bigger blues I will soak the meat for 2-3 days ,changing the water daily.
The exception I've found...there is a little local lake that doesnt allow you to use your boat ,so you pay $5 to rent theirs and bring your trolling motor. Most people wont fish there due to that law,but I go there just as soon as the water opens from the ice ,generally February ish and have great luck with rod and reel fishing(only method allowed on that lake) and catch up to 40 pound blues. The meat is excellent,and I believe that it is because they dont have the fat content from using it all winter long. The are skillet ready with no soaking.
Try washing the meat with lemon dish washing soap. So simple.
