I agree. On my receiver, one of the plastic "arms" that hold the strap broke (a well documented known issue) and she told me that I "shouldn't run my dog through heavy cover" as that is what breaks...
The tone can also be used to release the dog when doing stand alone retrieves. Teach the dog to go to the mat (or handle him there) and use the tone as his "send" command after you throw.
The inaudible tone issue is spelled out very clearly in their warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty is written in invisible ink.
Excellent and very informative thread. And remarkably civil, too! Thanks RaeganW and Mr. Samsa for your thoughtful and well-articulated posts.
Regarding "indirect pressure", I won't try to...
Epson 10000XL is good, but will set you back $2K!
Canon 9000F is a very good choice for under $200. Above that, you have to make a very big leap in price for any appreciable increase in quality.
Here's a very long post, but very pertinent to your problem and possibly helpful.
I have a male chessie who started exhibiting similar signs around 14 months. He was intact. Sounds familiar in...
Here you go.

Dr. Olds at Brentwood Pet Clinic in Los Angeles has an excellent reputation. 30+ years experience and very respected.
Doesn't look that "non-violent" to me.

I guess if it's predictable and you are able to clear the stadium first, but that looks potentially nasty.
Only then will you know whether this thread functioned effectively as a NR or not.
Regarding neutering:
I have done a lot of research on the pros and cons, and I certainly value Pete's advice.
After my initial post here, I did not immediately neuter the dog because I was...
Pete, that woman in your avatar has more padding (especially where it's needed most) than your bite suit.
I thought I might get slowly desensitized to that picture, but that hasn't happened and...
Thought I'd post an update on my dog's progress.
Several RTFers recommending "Pete in Idaho", who both trains retrievers and deals with dog aggression issues.

Thanks for the posts and the private messages. Many were helpful and hopefully others can benefit from the thread.
Just a few general responses:
I, by no means, was expecting to remedy the...
Thanks for the advice, Tim. To elaborate, when heeling the dog away from the food, if he growls or shows any sign of aggression, what exactly would be the "submissive position" to put him in? ...
I never interrupted his meal with a command. But I, too, have considered that the "structured" feeding has brought on the opposite effect. Instead of asserting control, it may only increase the...
His food and water bowl are in a corner of the kitchen. When he gets fed, he sits and waits until I put the bowl down and I release him. Not much more to it than that... Just pointing out that...
Forgive me in advance for my very long post, but I'm in a very tough spot and want to be thorough as possible as I seek the opinions of experienced retriever folks.
I have an 19 month old intact...
I live in Los Angeles, and while perhaps not quite as restrictive as NYC, it has grown increasingly more difficult because of heavily enforced leash laws. Parks, school ballfields and the beaches...
What is a good model for training in warmer climates? I don't want something that will end up being too warm.
Thanks for all of the great advice and recommendations so far.
(I do have to say that based on the fact that all of the books and dvds mentioned are written by women, and all of the posters...
I'm curious as to what potential problems might occur by pursuing competitive obedience as a secondary interest with a field dog.
I'm assuming head-up heeling will be situational and he wouldn't...
I think that teaching attention / "look" is perfectly fine (and a requirement of good obedience). Early on, you can then use the "look" command in the yardwork when the dog is staring at the over...
