Who trained Tubb?
The QA2 AKC title is an outstanding method to encourage amateur trainers into the Field Trial arena. My dog earned a second place at an Owner/Handler Hunt Test event and thus became Qualified All...
Thank you all for your help. Found the ducks and some new suppliers!
Can anyone direct me to someone who has ducks to sell?
I need at least four dozen but will take whatever I can get.
I am in the Dallas TX area but will travel.
I train alone and use four Winger Mates. They are an indispensable tool for creating flyer like realism. I use Dogtra remote release electronics which allows the firing of the winger mate at any time...
I own four Winger mates. They are well made and a valuable training tool. However, the servos go bad at 3 years. The website has no help and no contact information . You are on your own once the...
Generally, I have been pleased with the performanceof the Dogtra Remote Receiver electronics. However, they seem to last aboutfive years then have various problems that eventually render them...
Thank you for your comments and observations. Apparently, the 2012 Master National diagrams do not reflect the difficulty of the tests.
At the 2012 Master National, what element failed most dogs? Marks or blinds? Handler or dog error (breaking, etc)?
You created all things for your glory
And made us stewards of this creature.
If it is your will,
to health and strength.
Blessed are you, Lord God,
From Bill Hillman's website:In this DVD, Bill shows 28 days of real time training sessions with a puppy over a time span of 2 ! months The puppy is 11 weeks old at the start. At the end...
Evan, I for one, appreciate your comments and insight.
Texas has some outstanding clubs that put on excellent tests and trials. The only thing missing is a Sunday morning service. I would definitely attend.
I have four Winger Mates.
They are very well made, easy to use, and effective.
I use them with Gunners Up wingers and Dogtra receivers and have been very pleased with the results.
Thank you to all the members of FT/HT clubs that work so hard to make the events possible.
As a relative new particpant in FT/HT I cannot comment on member retention. However, my most discouraging...
After completing all three series in a Master Test and not receiving a qualifying score, the judges advice to the handler was "don't make the judges think".
The pro suggested direct pressure after attempts at attrition and indirect pressure were used but the cast refusal (or cast ignore) continued (assuming a trained dog but the diversion was...
Assume a poison bird or heavy scent from previous falls; dog stalls as he passes scent, handler whistle sits dog.
Handler casts away from diversion. Dog takes the cast but immediately...
The question posed was "Is using direct pressure for a cast refusal effective?" and "How and when would it be used?"
In an attempt to teach a dog to avoid posion birds, suction and other...
Cast Refusal: Dog is in the front sit position in the field. Handler gives a "right over" cast. Dog turns straight back and begins independent hunt (due to some diversion/distraction/suction).
Is using Direct Pressure for a cast refusal effective?
How and when would it be used?
The question assumes an advanced dog (clearly knows the cast) that has been corrected with first, attrition...
Third series of a derby in April was a double with a 388 yard memory bird (water cheater). Water started at 300 yards with a deer feeder at 200 yards directly on the line to the mark.
As dog is heeled to line in AKC Master test he heels very close to the trainer, touching or rubbing against handlers leg. Is this a DQ fault?
On return to line with bird, dog rubs handlers leg...
What is your training prgram for an advanced dog?
Jack M. Gwaltney, Jr., M.D., describes in his book "Training and Campaigning Retrievers", page 67, table 9 a "Training Program for Advanced...
Would you administer this along with Bio Sponge or one at a time?
