Thank you Mike, I don't need it explained to me. Each to their own. I've described one way of reinforcing a confident outrun on a single cast. You have other methods. Each is valid, that's why I...

I think if it were me running this, I would make sure there were at least two bumpers down in the area you are sending to, and then you could send the dog back a second time and hope to get it there...

At 10 weeks old, I'm fairly happy that my pup has the confidence to jump up at people!! LOL and be a happy and confident little pup. Each to their own. ;)

I teach all my pups to heel off the lead first before they ever go on a lead. So they hold a nice position and then I can just slip a 'slip lead' on, which is pretty much redundant.

What Rick said - don't reward popping with handling on - and what Wayne said - it sounds like you're pushing it way too far at this stage. Pair back and get success to build a good habit rather than...

MG, it's very sad that you have to deride people that have a different approach and who want to learn. I don't think I am going where you assume I am going at all in Mississippi (but it sounds like...

I think you will find I didn't post the video you may be talking about, if it was from this year's Championship? And if it was that one, I think you will also find that the dog will have been marked...

Yes, Breck I do that turning at heel thing. It is something I do train strictly. Dog has to always make an effort to be at my heel. Wherever my left leg goes that is where the dog goes. But that...

Ok. Interesting. When competing, we are not allowed to talk to our dogs once in line, so couldn't do that 'that's it', 'no' etc (although we could in training obviously).

Just talking about blinds then as we don't line for marks (unless it is one of a multiple). That is a fundamental difference then as we use our hand/arm for the dog to take a line from and 'lock on'...

LOL. We do have cross winds to deal with here too! ;) and our Open level dogs are regularly running the above on land as standard (but we don't have such a strong focus on water I agree). Many of...

Yup, I think we've been through all that in the previous pages. ;)

Russ, I will try and get to see one of your trials if it fits in. I imagine we will be fairly time limited with teaching/judging, and then we will want some days holiday :) but it would be nice to...

Yeah, sarcasm - the lowest form of wit apparently! ;)

There is no 'punishment' as such paired with the word, so in a way it is more of a NRM than a correction. The 'punishment' if you want is the...

Well I'm sorry if you felt the post was offensive. The majority of it was relating to how I train and relate to my own dogs. And only the last paragraph was a supposition that our differences may be...

No Mike I never once said that 'pinpoint marking can be taught' I merely said that I (personally) find it easier to teach skills that improve/aid marking rather being able to 'teach' biddability. ...

No idea what you're referring to MG by 'semaphore' sending. But why don't you start a new thread if you have a genuine interest or question? This thread has already been severely hijacked.

Breck - probably between Feb and April. Date not confirmed yet. And Mississippi I think.

Kim, you sound very confused/conflicted. One minute you are telling me you aren't using force and the next you are replying to somebody as above that there aren't any FCs in US trained without force...

Yes, I agree that there is always an element of pressure, for all creatures great and small in life. :)

Not at all! I've had far more 'attacks' or digs slung at me! I am hugely in the minority here!

But it seems I am not allowed to say anything or have an opinion. That I must always be wrong...

Actually, I am coming to USA next year to give a seminar/teach, so I will look forward to that. :)

No, MG please don't put words into my mouth. I mean 'make' as in what Steve said above "But one purpose of force fetch is to teach the dog, who already wants to fetch objects for you, that he...
