Most basic puppy books describe how to handle these little pup things. Libraries are great free resources for such. Always advise 'reading ahead' of time regardless of where you are in 'training'.

Good - you can't go wrong. Sometimes you have to poke a couple notes in. People get busy with their day jobs but most all clubs are happy to bring in new members.

Yes - learning how to take ownership will get you a long way over the course of training your dog.

I put my dog at sit when filling the bowl. It's not a test or a dominant exercise - I just don't need a big nose of help. ;)

Agreed - poison makes it tougher. Good training though on a dog at the senior level that also hunts waterfowl.

I was referring to a diversion bird being thrown on a senior dog returning with, what is typically, the memory bird.
