That should be doable if you send a blood sample and overnight it. I don't recommend a cheek swab it you're in a time crunch.
The U of MN VDL runs the EIC test on M and Th, and usually our turnaround time is about a week. You can call the lab on M or Th afternoon if it is urgent.

Can you see these without being on an academic server:

I'm fairly sure some of the EIC videos on youtube are from dogs that don't actually have EIC.
Here are some that are EIC:

We are not aware of any issues, nor have we received any reports of issues with EIC and anesthetic.
Hmm... Let's see.
These numbers are for Labradors only.
In 2008 (test began in July) we saw:
335 Affected (12.9%)
1093 Carriers (42.2%)
1164 Clears (44.9%)
With several hundred Golden Retrievers checked, we haven't found any affected or carriers for the EIC mutation. If it is in the population, it is quite rare.

You could try your local library.
The stats listed above were ONLY from clear x carrier breedings, so we will always expect on a large sample set to see ~50% clear and ~50% carriers being produced. The carrier rate in Labradors as a...
From our frequently asked questions are discussions of both the clear/carriers with collapse and % of EIC affecteds that do collapse.

Same goes for me for EIC questions.

They ramped up to ~34 and the fruit flies became paralyzed. Then they lowered it back down to room temp and they regained normal flying function. If you leave them at the elevated temp too long,...
I was just looking this video up to share with an owner to explain temperature sensitive mutations.
This is in the fruit fly equivalent of the DNM1 (dynamin 1) gene that EIC is associated with.

I'm not exactly sure what is being said here. To me it sounds like they are doing the disease test at one point, and a DNA profile (maybe parentage verification???) at a later date. If this is in...
With cheek swabbing young pups you need to be very careful about cells from other dogs being present in the mouth. Antibodies in mom's milk, skin cells from her nipple, or sucking on other pups can...
This a good question without a simple answer.
We have extensively collected data on EIC affected dogs. We have over 700 EIC genetically affected Labradors of sufficient age to make collapse...
Homozygous vs. Heterozygous.
A CLEAR dog is homozygous normal (two copies of the normal gene)
A CARRIER dog is heterozygous (1 copy of the normal gene, 1 copy of the EIC mutant gene)
An AFFECTED...
These are just for EIC.
I would email Alfort for CNM stats.

Yes, I can search my database by name.
The dog genome contains approximately 2.5 billion base pairs.

So the simple answer is roughly 1 in 2.5 billion that the same exact bp would...
Anytime there is an apparent error due parent/offspring mis-match, the parties involved should immediately contact the VDL at 800-605-8787 or vdl@umn.edu. Provide case numbers of dogs in question,...
EIC was identified in Chessies concurrently with Labradors. We had received a family with an affected (and collapsing) dog prior to identifying the EIC mutation. Current figures place the EIC...
