Huntin dawg guy here: Not a pro by any means. However, I have trained a few duck dogs. You have excellent advice in many previous posts, yet I detect an "attitude" in your last post. No doubt...
Just curious, how did you isolate aversion allergy to specific breeds?
Bill, feel your pain. Wonderful words on your part from one hunter and hunting companion to another. It don't get no better than a dog that hunts and lives for water. Take care, so sorry.
I tell this story and chills still run up and down my spine. I was scared to death.
The July afternoon was gorgeous as I pulled a trailer (towed with I guess you could say a "yuppie" Jeep Grand...
COOL!! THANKS FOR THE PICS. Nice looking pitt! Never thought I would say that in a lifetime. That is quite a "buck" you have made for training.

Chris, good job. Admirable for sure. I started Hobo on the conditioned retrieve. He is a smart dog and a very good student. He is stellar on "hold" but I must admit I didn't follow...
No doubt John. I take clean shots, 35 yards would be a big stretch for me, and still have cripples. I am not a great shot, but I would guess much better than average on waterfowl. I n the ares I...
Hobo is itching to go:p you make a very good point. He has never retrieved a duck, and he hates Chessies--- Bad Combo in the swamp!

Seams like common sense would apply here. I wouldn't want to freeze my a@@ off in a kennel or a truck. What's the hurry?
Would error on caution. Good luck with your pup!
Yup, even the worst "trained " still bring back ducks. That is/was what they were bred for. May not take a back, over, or whatever, but many do their job. Might ruin a hunt or two for others...
Nice list! can add many more items to chew up. We haven't had a role of toilette paper in a holder in years:p
Personally, I am pretty sure they will develop a better coat outside, though it has not been a huge issue for me here in Northern California. I think a dog that is part of the "family will always...
Welcome Corey. Lot's to learn and absorb. All fun!
Spectacular pics. You are very talented!
Very Cool picture!
Jen--we gotta you on the river. We get a daily show of Bald Eagles, and Ospreys, and an occasional Golden.
So so sorry Paul. I feel for you.
Love the pic
Kendall, good advice--this one might take a GROUP HUG though!;)
*So now the neighbor has told me that if his pup comes into my yard and annoys me or my dogs its ok for me to "just shoot him"!
...
Thanks all. Good advice, and something we have been putting up with for quite some time.
We have a regular group of four guys that play on Friday. And, Four dogs chill on the deck watching:...
Just to give a better understanding, no dogs are in the house. Outside castle.
Lonnie, would you try to help an obviously clueless dawg friend? I did today, with frustrating results. Potentially...
Lifelong friend about to be eighty-sixed from social situations. We have dogs in the country and enjoy tennis and hanging out time. His five year old Springer barks nonstop--annoying as heck. ...
Really cool----I have all the geese but only 15 of the ducks, and no rib eyes.
My first "duck" was a scoter in college at Humboldt Bay. I cooked it up and had guests. My girl friend never...
YOUR ON! lIL DOG TRAINING, LIL FISHIN, AND LOTTA TOASTING---thanks Jen, see you in a few months.
in box now empty
I debated posting this, but I know we are all dog people and you would understand my pain.
He was my first retriever and taught me how to train. Oh so forgiving he was. A rookie trainer landed a...
