    Default Dog First Aid Kit

    Hi all,

I did a quick search for Dog First Aid kits on the forums and found nothing. We are heading out to the big yearly hunting trip. I have purchased everything under the sun. My wife asked if I had a first aid kit for the dog. I don't even have one for the humans. Do you guys have a recommendation? Should I put one together from scratch, or get one on line?

    Thanks,

    Chuck

Google "Canine Trauma Kit" there are many available pre-packaged.

I keep this one on my truck. Hope I never need it.

Look at the kit Lion Country supply has...with the exception of a couple items has about everything. ...looked at the one from gundog supply and is identicle ,plus he is a sponser here. Jim

In a recent copy of Retriever News there was a very complete list of items to keep in a canine first aid kit. I'll try to find a link or upload the list this evening.

I put all that stuff together myself, plus I added a few things; Rimadyl, 500 mg Metronidazole, 250 mg Amoxicillin, and the most used item I have EMT Gel. I keep it all in a blind bag.

Here is a nice kit too. Mostly purchased for Police K9 units but none the less, gets the job done.

Total price plus any shipping &tax= $131.50 I found all prices on Ebay,(I did this for my own knowledge, but figure I'd post while I had it figured up)

I dont have several of these items ,but will be having them soon, one thing I have that I did not see on the list ,that I keep is paint sticks for make shift splints.

One other thing that crossed my mind after watching Justicedog's CPR video ,which is on the main page ,is the break and shake up ice packs to have for heat exhaustion...will they work for field ice packs well enough/fast enough to be useful ?

I have this one. Added a muzzle and other stuff. Injured dog can get pretty mean sometimes.

I have not put a whole kit together yet. I bought a small first aid kit for people at Walmart. But carry vet wrap and sanitary napkins for use as a large bandage in my blind bag
